Heyoooooo. Sitting in the parking lot for dd's 4 month appointment. I guess people took off because traffic wasn't bad so now I'm here 30 minutes early but the kids are quiet so here we wait. The inlaws stayed at the shore for another day so ds, who freaked out at his last appointment, is with us. Hopefully he's chill. They're not coming for you buddy!

In keeping with the sleep talk, the first night with arms out of the swaddle did not go well. Dd went down at 7, I had to go in and pop the pacifier in once or twice in the first 15 minutes, up at 10, 1:30, and 5. Boo hiss. But she rolled back to belly to back twice last week so I should stick with it right? Someone make me feel better.

Whenever I type "pop" I'm worried I'll misspell it or autocorrect it to "poop".

Oof that's a rough night Lakes. Hopefully it only takes her a couple more to get adjusted. In a generous move from HR, I get 60% of the holiday time even when holidays fall on my off days (I'm a 60% employee) so I'm taking my time this morning and catching up on chores at home. H took the kids to daycare so I have 4 whole hours alone! And I'm getting a haircut before heading in to the office!

Why are all the sick walk in patients chilling in the regular waiting room?! Get your sick kid out of here and on the other side of the divider. Grumbles.

Oof, Lakes that is rough. I've created a semi-swaddle scenario, but had a similar night (I use one of those breathable muslin blankets to tuck her arms down just enough to get her through the 1st 15 mins after a wake up/nursing session), but then she frees herself for most of the night. Which meant that last night went: Sleep at 8:00 up at 8:30, 12, 3-5, and 6. Thankfully everyone then slept until 8. Ugh. But yeah, she is too close to rolling consistently for me to feel comfortable really swaddling her arms. Aren't they supposed to lose the startle reflex sometime around now?? Today is a chill day - playground, gymnastics, TJ's run. It's still April weather, but at least I don't have to worry about everyone getting overheated, I guess? Tomorrow DD1 has a checkup and a pre-K meet the teachers event, which is giving me all the feels - how is my tiny 5-lb baby almost 4???

Our first night sans-swaddle looked like that too Lakes. I went back and did two nights of one-arm-in swaddling before switching to a sleep sack. I'd stick with it. For us it got better quickly.

We decided to leave at bedtime last night, so on the upside there was no traffic and B transferred fine to the crib (yay). On the downside, he woke at like 11:30 and every hour and a half after that (so much boo). I feel terrible wishing B's little baby days away, but I can't wait until he's a little older and the sleep situation is sorted out. Being a slave to naptime and bedtime routines is draining.

Was it someone here who posted how to download your post history from TCF? I'd like to save mine since it's the only place I have my birth stories and stuff.

Lakes, stick with it! Usually it takes 3 days to teach them something new. We can do anything for 3 nights right?! carrots enjoy your "me-time"! ellabee I often say something similar, I like the newborn blob phase and once they are sitting up and routine is set so they can be flexible. I do not like the in between. Especially right now when he is aware and wants to be entertained but can't actually sit up on his own and do much yet.

History repeats itself: dd has to go in for weight checks. She's down to the 4th percentile.
Rational Lakes: this is when ds had his weight gain slow down and he settled into his natural weight curve. She's meeting all other milestones so I'm sure she's fine.
Irrational Lakes: omg mom guilt. Does she not eat enough because we're busy and often get interrupted by a toddler? Ds got down to 17ish percentile I think but his height was always 99%, dd is 29% for height. Because both height and weight are lower it makes me feel more guilty.
Rambling: I saw the new PA and he was extra. Immediately went from extra feedings to rice cereal in bottle and starting solids and she can't have any spit up (lolzzz) and if it continues we're checking for metabolic and thyroid issues. Holy crap dude, don't tell me that unless we actually have to test for them next month. I'm glad it's not my first rodeo because I definitely would be having a major panic attack instead of super mom guilt. With ds I saw one of my favs and she was so reassuring. She went the we'll keep an eye on it, we probably caught him right before a growth spurt, he's probably settling into his natural curve because breastfed babies gain quickly at first and then slow down.

This Tuesday is the most Monday of all Tuesdays. J busted his face after dinner last night. He was running and fell face first into a concrete step. He ended up with two stitches. So we all went to bed very late and of course B, once again, had a rough time staying asleep. I was an hour and half late to work. I still haven't had breakfast. Sigh.

Lakes I feel like I've heard a lot of friends lately who were told to start solids at 4 months or put rice cereal in bottles bc their babies weight wasn't where they wanted it. I don't remember this ever happening to anyone 2 years ago when DS was this age. I wonder if there's been some shift in the recommendations or what. Sorry for the extra stress of weight checks - hoping it's very short term for her just like your son!

Woah Lakes, that PA was definitely being extra. I get he concern but seriously, sir, slow your roll! I can't tell you not to feel mom guilt because we know how that works, lol. But for serious, you are doing the best you can and I'm sure baby girl is just keeping you on your toes.

He was acting fine his morning but last night was awful. I had to hold him down while he was stitches up and he screamed the whole time. My heart hurt so much. As for breakfast, I am currently enjoying a breakfast sandwich from Dunkin.

She was okay with the lower weight because of breastfeeding whereas this guy was not. I almost got the sense that he wasn't as comfortable or as knowledgeable with breastfeeding? I don't know, it was very different from all the other doctors/PAs/NPs I've interacted with at our practice.

Lakes Q had a hard time arms our swaddle for the first few days but now is doing much better so there is hope! Also that pedi is a bit much. I am sure everything is as it should be and you know what to look for if not. You are a good mom ((hugs)) heybulldog oh no! I am glad he is doing fine today but that is still so scary. Sorry you had to hold him down I know that must have been heart wrenching. Tuesday be Mondaying over here.

Also, she has great head control when I hold her but she can't sit up yet. I thought sitting was the benchmark for solids? Pretty sure she'd flop over in the high chair.

But isn't that how percentiles work? I mean, someones gotta be on the lower end for there to be a range. Some babies are just petite. Yeesh.

Lakes, I'm sorry that PA went to a strange place with you. At our 4 month the doctor asked about her eating solids and I was very surprised that wasn't even on my radar. We had a hard night last night we are transitioning to crib sleeping and my perfect sleeper is not sleeping at all. Up every half hour alll night! I think we are headed to the library for some indoor playtime so I can sleep with my eyes open. I'm sorry for everyone else who's struggling with sleep it's the pits.

I posted this on the infant board too, but anyone have life insurance? I have a small default policy through my job, but I feel like DH and I should really have something outside of that.
What are the different kinds? What kind do you have or suggest? What's your premium look like?

Oh man. All you mommas can have all the espresso shots today!
I'm actually feeling really awake today! Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself. This weekend turned out really great, even with working all day Saturday. We went and test shot some handguns (they didn't have the rifle we were looking for) and hung out with some friends who were in from out of town on Sunday and then spent Monday afternoon at my brother's place for a bbq and pool party.

ellabee we got serious life insurance when DS was born. We went with 30 year term life with the thought process that once the kids are out of the house, if one of us passed, we could each survive on our own salaries. These are significantly cheaper than whole life policies that you keep until you pass or cash out. We went with 10x our annual salary for each of us at the recommendation of our financial advisor. You can get quick quotes here and we actually got our policies through here. You'll have to do an extensive phone questionnaire and get a blood draw (someone will come to your house for this). Our final premiums were pretty close to the instant quotes. Let me know if you have any questions...this is still pretty fresh in my mind. www.zanderins.com

Lakes that PA needs to slow his roll. Cereal in bottles is generally not rec'd anymore because it's a choking hazard. I only hear of it for reflux kids these days. PSA: cereal has less calories and fat than breastmilk. So using it to "fill up" makes zero sense. If baby needs calories (and I don't think you're at that stage yet) then supplement with formula, not cereal. WTF are they teaching these people these days... DS was 4th %tile at his 12 month appointment, so I feel you. But my ped was like "eh, he's growing in height and he's healthy".
