My DD is almost 20 months and has been showing interest in using the potty. She was recently moved to the toddler room at DC and they will be initiating potty training in the next few months, given her interest. Right now we use a combo of pockets and AIOs. She is the only one in CD at the center and they went out of their way to accommodate us in that regard, so I would like to make it as easy as possible. What do I need in terms of cloth diapers that are similar to pull ups that I can send to daycare? How many diapers will she need? Do they hold the same amount of pee as a regular CD? She's a heavy wetter and can soak through 3 inserts in no time. Her nighttime diaper is ridiculous as a result. Are there any brands you recommend? DD is a skinny, chicken legged kid in the 10% percentile.

I would not buy anything special. We went naked then to undies. Pull ups just prolong the process. We basically did the Oh Crap method at home one weekend then he went to school in undies with extra clothes.

I would stick with the diapers you are currently using until she is reliable about actually going on the potty. Otherwise you are going to have lot of wet clothes to clean. Are they insisting that you send pull ups? Side snap AIOs may be your best bet for pull-up like diapers that actually hold a decent amount that aren't cloth trainers. They haven't said they require pullups, but since that is the norm there I assumed it was what they would be comfortable with. I guess my main question is if there is a CD equivalent to pullups? I honestly know nothing about pull ups in general or whether they have the same absorbency as regular disposables. |

Pullups are less absorbant than regular disposables, and really should only be used once a child is actually able to pull their pants up and down to use the potty and has reliable dry periods. Otherwise they're just a leaky waste. If they want something easier to pull up and down, side snap AIOs like Simplex would work. But honestly, when I worked in daycare, it wasn't any easier to potty train a kid in pullups or regular diapers, and pullups are actually worse for poop.

I just kept sending pocket diapers while they started potty training, until she got a bit better about it. After that I sent underwear or Gerber's training pants (like underwear with extra absorbency, but not enough to hold a pee) and extra clothes.

Pull-ups hold a ton of pee, and all the cloth trainers really only hold maybe one small pee or a leak. I've also found that the cloth trainers seem to run really snug so I have a hard time getting them on and off of my kid and he definitely can't do it by himself (he's 3). If I were you I'd stick with the cloth diapers for now, and if she starts "getting it" then switch to something else at that time, depending on how she is doing. |

Thank you all for the info. My wallet will be very happy now that i don't have to run out and get new diapers. I'll stick with the diapers for now unless they say something.
