What was your very first fandom? Or at least the first one you remember...

The chronicles of narnia! I actually wasn't allowed to read HP when it came out so I received the CoN box set instead. I wrote a few really embarrassing Edmund/OC never-ending soap opera fics before I had ever even heard of fan fiction. I think I was around 10 when I started writing.
Luckily they were written on my parents' ancient Macintosh and I have the only floppy disc copy...

Animorphs. I still have a letter I got from KA Applegate after writing to her. I really hated how she ended the series though.

Probably HP, which is weird since I was in my twenties and didn't start reading the books until right before the sixth one came out.
As a kid, I read a lot and re-read certain books and definitely re-read LOTR many times, but I think, for me at least, it took having the internet and being able to connect with other people to really be part of a fandom.
I guess maybe Friends might be considered a pre-internet fandom.

I spent a long time sticking my fingers in my ears, not quite convinced that yerks were not real. How did it end? I don't really remember the last few books

I spent a long time sticking my fingers in my ears, not quite convinced that yerks were not real. How did it end? I don't really remember the last few books Not sure what you remember. I'll use a spoiler jic anyone wants to read the series (ha!) and doesn't want to know how it ends {Spoiler} So eventually the Yeerks find out who the Animorphs are and they escape to live in the mountains. The Yeerks also manage to acquire the morphing cube and begin giving their host bodies morphing powers.
Then they decide to make the invasion more full scale and enslave the entire earth like they have done on previous planets.
The Animorphs plan and take over one of the big control ships. Jake has Rachel infilitrate another ship with the sole purpose of killing his brother (who was still a host and could now morph). She gets killed too. I kind of saw her dying, after the Ellimist Chronicles, but it felt so meaningless.
Then there are war trials. Visser three gets convicted. The Animorphs manage to not be tried. Cassie and Jake don't stay together. She ends up getting married to someone else. Tobias goes to live as a hawk fulltime in the mountains.
Time passes. Ax disappears. Jake rounds up the troops (minus Cassie, who stays on Earth) to go find him.
He's being possessed by some other alien species, and then Jake orders them to ram their ship into his.
And nothing. That's the end. What happens to them? No one knows.
tl; dr She left a cliffhangar that didn't matter and didn't need to be done and I hate how she killed off Rachel.

I'm not the only one to say Animorphs! That's funny. We got the internet at our house while I was neck-deep in the series, and I got really into Animorphs fanfic and fansites. It's where I found my first AIM friends, and had my first message board experience, ha. I also remember coding a really basic fansite, I think through Geocities or Angelfire. Oof, back in the day. I remember feeling like the ending of the series came so far out of left field, and I hated it at the time. I wonder if they hold up to rereading at all, as an adult.
The Tamora Pierce love makes me happy, too <3 I still love rereading her books!

I think either Seventh Tower series or Dragonball Z were my first fandom. It's been a rollercoaster since, so I can't exactly remember where I started. My fanworks started with DBZ, though, definitely.

My fanworks started with DBZ, though, definitely. Of course, I say all this while having a tab open on my computer for Super Mario World, which definitely came before both for me. Not sure to what extent it is "fandom", but I replayed the shit out of this game. It's probably still one of my favorite (if not #1) games to date.

The X files was my first fandom, as far as discovering there was a community of fans beyond just watching the show. Freshman year of high school, my best friend introduced me to TXF and fanfiction and we ended up on a Yahoo group basically made up of teenage girls who hated Diana Fowley (because she was Mulder's ex girlfriend and obviously Scully was his true love.). Funny enough, I ended up reconnecting with a girl who was in the group years later when we both went to a party at Dragon*Con for a cosplay forum and discovered our boyfriends (now husbands) knew each other. We still keep in touch and went to each other's weddings. The internet is a small, strange place...
So yeah, The X Files and Mulder/Scully Romance was my gateway to fandom.

My first anti-fandom was Pokemon. I just thought of it. I was a member of FLAP, the fanatical league against Pokemon. It was definitely something.

Because I am kind of cracking up over it. Apologies in advance. I was a very extra 12 year old. Let me see if teamflap is still around the interwebs. ETA I'm sure it's archived somewhere but I don't care that much. I did find a random mention to a Burger King spokesperson which is really ridiculous. As to the other. I laugh at myself about it now too.

I was raised on Star Trek (fall '87 baby, my parents watched TNG the night my mom and I came home from the hospital) but I think Tamora Pierce or Harry Potter would be my first true fandom. In middle and high school I was on a chat-based role play based on Song of the Lioness.

Even the ones I claim now, my involvement level is much more muted than anything animated.

I was raised on Star Wars and Star Trek. My parents are huge sci-fi and fantasy nerds.
Buffy was definitely my first, outside parental exposure/influence. I loved the movie, and I was hooked once the show came out. That was middle school. I had Buffy everything. Walls covered with SMG and Buffy. SMG autographs and various keepsakes. Lol Then the Matrix and LOTR in high school.

Did you read the graphic novels that came out after the show?

My first fandom was the Myst series of video games. I got the original Myst game back when a restaurant (I think TGIFridays?) was giving out Broderbund games for some reason. I fell in love with it, went online to search if there were any more games, and found the online fan community. Played through Riven and the other sequels, read the novels, and (I guess I can say it now...was under NDA at the time, lol) was an alpha tester for their MMO (that sadly never saw formal release). I made my own fan site on Geocities :-P (I wonder if it still exists...) and even attended an annual fan meetup/convention when it was close to me.
After the Myst MMO died, I got into EverQuest, then WoW, and still play EverQuest 2. I got into HP in high school because we had to do a bunch of book reports on British literature. Someone in the class asked if Harry Potter counted and the teacher conceded doing a report on one HP book was OK. I figured it would be a quick/easy read, never expecting to then fall in love with the books, lol. Friends in college got me into anime, and now I help run an anime convention :-P
