This poll is brought to you by my sore thighs and back from constantly bouncing, and sore throat from shushing so loud. I want to know where in the scheme of normal we are.
I have a sleep book and I'd read it but I'm too tired and too busy bouncing all day.
ETA: I can't go back and edit that last option, but it was meant to say "it's like putting a bomb to sleep. She wakes up as soon as she hits the mattress and we have to start all over again."

Nighttime sleep is good. Nap time? Not so much. Guess it balances out.

L is a unicorn who goes to sleep awake (with a few bumpy periods where this wasn't the case). My first was very much the opposite and had to be nursed to sleep at all times. Didn't sleep much at daycare, etc.

My situation exactly. It's so frustrating. +2. It's so frustrating because I know he can do it. Same. It took an hour and a half to get him to sleep last night. Then it took 45 minutes after his MOTN bottle. Thank goodness J is back to STTN. As soon as we but B in the nursery J started sleeping and B stopped. Boo.

It really varies sometimes putting her to bed is so easy as other times it's a struggle and a real process. Not sure why either.

It really varies sometimes putting her to bed is so easy as other times it's a struggle and a real process. Not sure why either. This is us. Most nights are very easy; bath, change, noise, swaddle, nurse and she's out. Some nights she's up 2-3 times in the first hour, but once she's finally down, she's down through the night. I hope it stays that way. Naps are different. She doesn't nap long or often for me unless it's in the car. All 3 grandmas are still able to get her to nap while they're on duty though.

For the people who can get them down awake but drowsy, has it always been like that? I think it's always been a challenge for us because he was so colicky and had reflux, and now he is just used to bedtime being an hour and a half long battle.

Bunny M had to be rocked mostly to sleep or all the way to sleep for the first 2 months. Then we started making a point to rock her a little less each night until we were putting her down immediately after her bottle. This went out the window during the 4 month sleep regression but now we're back to drowsy but awake. In all honesty, I think so much of it is just personality. Like I don't think that I'm doing something magical that makes this work for her. So please don't beat yourself up!

Bunny I use to nurse to sleep because she would always pass out while eating. Now that she's a bit older she just gets drowsy for feedings so I just made a point to put her down still awake. +1 to carrots personality observation. Ds is soooo chill and dd is my little spitfire. She goes from 0 to 60 in two seconds.

I also do awake when drowsy but sometimes it takes half hour of going in, giving her the binkie, creeping away, and repeat. It's so hard to get them to sleep when they are overtired. Just remember everything is a phase and it won't last forever. What sleep book do you have? Bunny

Thanks carrots, Lakes, and orangecrush. Seems that unless I have him near a coma, he immediately goes from 0-60 crying as soon as I put him down. I'll see if I can slowly work on putting him less in less and less of a comatose state though. I have healthy sleep habits, happy child. This evening was amazing. There were little to no naps and everyone is exhausted, and my 3 yo, husband, and t are all asleep before 8pm. Normally as soon as I get one down the other wakes up. Maybe tonight I'll get to read the book.

Bunny I am a big fan of that book. The table of contents is a good tool to see what parts you actually need to read, while the science behind it is interesting it's too long to read if you're exhausted! I just grabbed it to pull some key points: PT 1/Ch 2 Sleep Strategies: "Drowsy signs", "Solutions to help your child sleep better" Pt II/ Ch 5: "Months 3-4 "Morning nap develops", and the end of this chapter is really good for this stage Ch 6: Months 5-8 "afternoon nap develops"

Mine needs to be nursed to sleep (hahahahaha what even is "drowsy"??), but you have to nurse her, and then hold her upright and jiggle her enough that she burps, but not enough that she wakes up. Only then can you put her down, but you almost certainly will have to do the whole thing twice.
At least it happens at 8:30/9 now instead of 1am??
Weirdly, morning nap is easy, usually, and MOTN wake ups are brief/not too many, but evenings are TOUGH. Midday/afternoon naps are almost all on the go, sorry 2nd child!
