Lurker here... was part of the other place for some time so it's probably time to stop lurking and jump back in. I am pregnant with baby #2. This board has a good head on its shoulders and I'm hoping for opinions.
Name is Maya/Maia/Maja
We prefer the pronunciation M-eye-uh (over May-uh) with our last name, which has a hard sound prefix and is Dutch. We will live in the USA for the foreseeable future.

I have never heard anyone in my region of the US pronounce it May-uh. I would expect everyone to pronounce it M-eye-uh.

I'd drop Maja first because I remember a European woman saying people often trying to say Mah-jah. Js, in general, can change depending on the language, so it's easier to just avoid when there are easier spellings.
I've always heard both Maya and Maia pronounced as M-eye-ah, so I think it will come down to personal preference. Maya is the most common spelling if that is a concern (from 2016 births): Maya (4055), Mya (1902), Maia (542), Myah (442), Mayah (130), Maiya (109), Maja (55), Myiah (47), Maiah (43), Myia (20), Maiyah (19), Maaya (7), Myha (7)

I haven't ever heard it pronounced May-uh until I read that the Maia spelling is pronounced that way. Glad to hear Meye-uh is the consensus! I'm not too concerned with popularity.

I would have no trouble pronouncing Maya or Maia. I think I've seen Maija too, but not Maja, so that one would make me pause.

I would pronouce Maya or Maia as rhyming with eye.
My son just had a Maja start at his daycare and I honestly stood there and read a few times deciding how I thought it was meant to be pronounced. I had settled in Maj-a until I heard the parents say it My-a.
All that to say I much prefer the obviousness of Maya.
