Last night I went to another breastfeeding class, this one taught by the LC who came and helped us with DS. I told her that I ended up nursing him for 18 months, and she was so happy for us. She then would refer to me from time to time, because she was keeping it real and explaining that sometimes there are troubles on the beginning, but that doesn't mean it'll be a struggle the whole time. I hope it helped ease some of the first timer's minds.
I'm feeling better about nursing a newborn again. Of course I may be eating these words in a few days/weeks, lol.

cougarette, I probably should have gone to the breastfeeding class at the hospital again. Those early weeks were some of the hardest for me, so I'm anxious about starting up again with #2. I ended up going almost 2 years with DS, so hopefully experience helps this time around. Though my hospital does have twice weekly support groups led by LCs so I'll likely stop by those again. I went to redeem my $100 in free diapers from my Amazon registry only to find out that they limit you to just Huggies diapers. We have a good thing going with Pampers so I'm not into stocking up in another brand. I ended up spending the majority of the $100 on Aquaphor tubs, since we use that a ton with DS and likely will again with #2. But we are definitely well stocked now on that for quite a long time going forward haha. Luckily I actually have quite a sizeable stock of NB and Size 1 Pampers Swaddlers left over from DS when he outgrew those sizes to get me started anyway.

I mostly wanted the classes because I figure I'm used to a toddler where I could just whip it out and he knew what to do. 😂
I'm glad there are plenty of support groups you can attend!

My breast pump came yesterday!! I'm so excited. Had my GBS test today and also a cervical check. So that was fun. And no surprise, cervix is 100% closed.
On my way home I stopped and got a PSL and 2 chocolate croissants (1 for my mom) and the cashier looked at my belly as she handed me the bags. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, now that I'm edging into second trimester, is this when I do the breast pump thing? Member services told me to "start it with OB" and that she had no idea past that, so I just wanna make sure I'm doing the thing right.

Rama I'm sure it's different for everyone. I have unitedhealthcare. I called my insurance first and they gave me 2 companies they go through and told me I could order starting 30 days before my due date. Then I went to the companies websites to see what was offered, entered my insurance and OB info and they followed up with my OB on their own to confirm a pump was necessary. I never heard anything back, it just showed up at my door about a week later.

Rama, it differs from plan to plan how early you can order your pump and how to go about getting one. Your OB won't know what to do specific to your insurance, so there should hopefully be someone at your insurance company that can give you their requirements based off of your plan. Ours (CIGNA) was no earlier than 28 weeks, get a prescription for a pump from the OB, then go to a specific website to order a Medela PISA starter kit (only one they cover). I didn't even end up needing the prescription they told me to get - they said I would have to fax it/email it as part of the process, but then was never asked for anything except my OB's name.

Member services told me to "start it with OB" and that she had no idea past that, so I just wanna make sure I'm doing the thing right. As others said it varies by company, but step numero uno is to get the prescription from your OB. Make sure it says "double electric something something" (helpful, I know). From there, call your insurance company (or google) to find out which pumps they cover. You should be able to apply for the pump, but they likely won't fill it until X date or X number of weeks before your due date.

I found the classes we took for DS to be less than helpful. I’m more hands on learner so maybe that’s why?? cougarette sounds like my journey is very similar to yours, rough start but turned into something wonderful and we went for 18 months as well. I plan to use the same lactation nurse I used with DS. I credit her for keeping me going. Rama I submitted for my breast pump some beginning in the second trimester. Said it could be up to 30 days before my due date before delivery but I got my pump two weeks after submitting for it. Didn’t talk to my OB at all before.

"Working". Last few days!
Booked my flights for January vacation and hopefully will narrow down a hotel and a few options for house rental by the end of day. But work is actually keeping me busy which is nice because it makes the day go by fast.
Thanks for reminding me to brush up on breastfeeding. I BF DD until almost her 2nd birthday and almost forgot how hard it can be in the beginning. I hate the beginning but love it when they can go a few hours and the whip it out to resolve any situation phase.

Mom called today to ask if we had any news or updates about if my H would be able to be here for birth.
The answer is, as it's always been: just depends on when I go into labor. If I go tomorrow, we are good. If I go Oct 8th, not good. She disguised it well, but she really wanted to know if I thought I was close lol.
We hung up, and then she called back about 10 seconds later - clearly forgot to ask/say something. I couldn't help it so I answered the phone with "still no news, mom"

I'm so excited about all these babies!!!! I'm 37w4d so I am trying to patiently accept that I might be here for awhile- though I'm not gonna lie- I've eaten quite a bit of spicy food and a lot of pineapple lately on the off chance there's something to these wives tales. Every strong BH has me excited the real deal is about to start. So I'll just be patiently sitting over here while everyone has their adorable babies and love titing it all.

I'm not due anytime soon and have gotten similar comments, including the "are you dilated". Not a super appropriate comment to make regardless of where you are but in the hallway of an elementary school especially?!?😑 Though honestly I'm just as nosey as all of them I suppose because I want to know when you all have your babies and hopefully yours will be soon!!!

I'm also super nosey too tho And stalk people near their EDD lol.. I remember feeling this way last time because I was frustrated nothing was happening for me but totally get everyone's curiosity obvi!

After lots of acrobatics from bubs yesterday, it would appear bubs is having a rest day...fine by me! I managed to bake a batch of lactation brownies this am whilst DS was in school. Tag me if anyone wants the recipe and I'll post it...it's GF and uses oatmeal....a lot more potent than the pre-mix recipes I see going around where you just add in brewers yeast. Also started working on DS' Yoda ears...should be able to get that attached to the hat and finished tonight then I need to sew his costume therefore bubs needs to stay in until Monday! Now that I started knitting I am itching to knit other stuff too.

Rama, like what everyone said about contacting your insurance first and asking what they need and they should give you a list of DMEs they work with. Even within the same insurance it differs even with what type of plan you have, HMO, PPO etc. curmudgeon, I have UHC too and they actually gave me 4 DME to contact. Unless their policy changed since having DS, I had UHC too but on a different plan and I recall instead of 30 days before due date, eligibility was 45 days with DS. This time only eligible 30 days from due date. Anyways pretty easy and they will ship it out to you.

I think my biggest confusion right now is that Member Services *is* who I'd call and they told me to start the process through OB. :/ So I guess I'll just ask my OB at my next visit?

Rama, Your OB really wouldn't know...they will give you a prescription but it's your insurance that is the responsible party. Maybe ask specifically to speak to someone about breast pumps? I had to specifically ask for this when I called and they transferred me to another department because customer service couldn't help me and didn't know what the hell I was talking about.

I had to specifically ask for this when I called and they transferred me to another department because customer service couldn't help me and didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I think I just had a bad representative, tbh. I asked if I needed a prescription and she repeated that I needed to talk to the OB department. I'm willing to bet (I have Kaiser, so everything is kerfucked all the time) that they can't do anything until I get a referral/prescription from my OB, not that my OB knows anything about my insurance. I'm also going to be seeing a MFM for my ultrasounds going forward (which means I need to reschedule my A/S, ugh), so I think I'll have plenty of chances to get the information I need, I just want to be ready. Thankfully, I'm already thinking about this stuff barely in second tri, so even if everyone is wholly unhelpful [as usual], I have time to learn who's ass I need to crawl up to get what I need.

duskymonkey, I would like the recipe, please!!! I am seriously going to start wearing a sticker that says "I am due in 3 weeks but she will be here sooner. Yes I am still working. Yes I am ready to be done. It's a girl." Between patients, patients' families, random strangers in the hall, and other employees (some I know, some I don't), I answer these questions about 50 times/day. And I'm sorry but saying "Woah girl" with wide eyes as I approach you is not ok :-P

DH and I DTD to test out the old wives tale. That was... uncomfortable.
He also signed us up to bring pineapple for DS's class, so I said we should get extra for the house.
I'm also tired of answering when my last day will be ("the day before I have him") and hearing,"you're still here?!" Sigh.

When I told my boss I was pregnant and she asked my last day of work, I said uh the day before my csection? And she acted surprised and suggested earlier so I said ok I guess the Friday before, cs is on a Wednesday. Today, she told me to feel free to work up until the baby comes. Make up your mind lady! Then she started asking weird questions like how close is the hospital to my house and am I able to get there if roads are closed. What? Why are roads closed?

curmudgeon The roads closed thing is very weird, I guess she wants to know if you have a backup plan. Either way it's odd.
