I just started reading the books recently. I finished the first book last week and got the first part of Season 1 on DVD this week. I might have to spring for Hulu with Showtime if I catch up

I watch, but I'm two episodes behind at the moment. I've read the first three books (Outlander, Dragonfly, Voyager) - are the rest worth reading?

There's one in there that's rough ... but the books improve. I think it is voyager actually. I thought the rest were worth reading.

I'm actually struggling a little to get into the 2nd book. I'm kicking myself for starting the first season on DVD because that threw me off a little. I was initially planning to read everything first but got excited when the library had the discs available

I'm on the seventh book and sort of keeping up with the show. There is defintiely a rapid decline in the books. I think the choice to speed them through Bri's childhood was shortsighted. I'm not buying that Jamie is approaching 60 and still capable of fighting and stuff.

It is taking everything I have to not click your spoiler Leaf 🌱. I hate having books spoiled, but the clicky is so tempting

I'm enjoying all this book insight. I just started and am halfway through the first book. I like the show well enough but disliked the first part of season 2 (the France storyline). I need to catch up on the new season.

I need to catch up on the new season. I hate the France story line. In the books and in the show. I want to punch bonnie prince in the face, he's so obnoxious. It sets up story line for later on so I guess it's necessary ... but the characters are just so annoying.

Well I'll hold out hope for the future story lines and suffer through it as I continue with the books! In the show it didn't feel like it was instep with their characters so I was disappointed. I was hoping the book would be a bit more bearable.

I'm caught up on the show now. John Gray isn't blonde enough and Brianna isn't tall enough. But I am actually enjoying this season much more than season 2.

I'm all caught up on the show and have plans to start the second book tonight. Going over this thread again has mentally prepared me for any shortcomings it might have.

I love Davina Porter’s narration of the audiobooks. I think she is 80% of why I’ve made it so far in the books. I looooooove listening to her. Re: France, the only thing I really miss are the costumes. Is anyone else struggling with how they age the actors? Obviously I don’t want them to cast some one new... I just like it better when they’re closer to my age than my parents’.

I just like it better when they’re closer to my age than my parents’. The flashbacks are helping me lol. And that glorious scene of Jamie's bum. The Brianna/Roger relationship starts to take off soon so there will be some more non-weirdly aged romance. I'm interested to see what they do with Claire's hair. I hate it and (spoiler) I'm not sure she'd be able to maintain it in the 1700s. Jamie ages like a fine wine. Not necessarily in a logical way, but I'll take it. I read an article about how the female gaze and perspective is key for this show/book series. I think they will keep that in mind as the characters "age."

+1 to the hair grumpycat. I want it gone! Although, streaks of gray aside, the style does age her. Maybe that's what they were going for.

Another fan here! I've read all the books and while they go up and down in quality I just can't quit them.
The show is good, not as good as the books, but I like that they are trying to be accurate to the story. I really think they did a bad job casting adult Bri, she is just such a bad actor. Claire on the other hand I think is spot on, and Jamie was not what I had pictured but is really growing on me.

At first I thought they were trying to play up her being American born but now I think it's not the best acting. Overall the casting has been stellar imo.
