mischief, sphen - tag anyone else you think might be interested. So we're taking a break from our Runelords game as our other players need some time off. Is anyone interested in doing a different play by post campaign? This one would be a homebrew, and I'd try to tailor it to what people are interested in. We need at least 4 players who would be willing to dedicate a post a day, ideally, to the game. We'd be running the Pathfinder system, and I have a dropbox set-up with access to the Core Rulebook, which is all you need to make a character and play the game.

So what is this exactly? Sounds fun. It's a slow-ish based online way to play D&D (or Pathfinder in this case). You create your character, commit to posting a certain amount, and play through the adventure, interacting with the other players through their posts. Here's a description of play-by-post gaming: geekdad.com/2017/02/play-by-post-gaming/Depending on what people want to play, I'd sit down and plan out a story arc to run through starting at level one.

badwolf, @chair, would you be interested in joining the currently ongoing Runelords game? That way we can have a few more players and when people need breaks or can't post as much, we can keep going. Everyone is still level one, so you wouldn't be at any disadvantage. I can still try to drum up a little more interest in a homebrew campaign if you'd prefer that.

athn64 , sure. I just need to know how to get started and play. Like I said . . . total noob. I'll pm you the dropbox account and pw. First step is to make a character. It's pretty much the steepest part of the learning curve. Character creation basics: Any of the classes and races from the core are useable. It might be best to discuss amongst yourselves what everyone wants to play so that the party is balanced. The different human ethnicities in the guide are also allowed, as are the feats and equipment. Standard 20 point buy for ability scores. 150 starting gold for buying equipment. You'll start at first level. I'd start by reading the blurbs about the different races in Chapter 2 and the different classes in Chapter 3 and decide what you want to play. Currently we have a fighter, a rogue, a druid, and a cleric. Point buy chart for abilities is on pg 16. Every ability starts at 10 (worth zero points). You then spend points to make the abilities higher, or get points by making the abilities lower. The abilities you will want to be high will be dependent on your class. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or sphen. We'll be happy to help you out.

athn64 , so if I want to be an elf ranger that makes sense and would fill a void in the group? Would you focus on two weapon fighting or ranged? It's not a bad way to go. The only big void is a dedicated arcane caster, and I would definitely not suggest that for a first character. A ranger would be useful as either a front line fighter or a ranged attacker.

Elves are well suited to be archers. I seriously just said "yes" out loud with an arm motion. I'm alone and too excited to play. I'm going to print and fill out my character sheet tomorrow and Wednesday, so I should be ready to play soon. Any new questions you may have, feel free to take to the Runelords discussion thread. And don't be shy about tagging me if you have questions.

athn64 , do you play other pathfinder games? I've been thinking about playing on of these RPG's for a long time, but I don't know anyone who plays. I looked into some of the online communities I found and I'm not too sure about those. We have a group that meets every other Sunday, so the rest of my gaming is done in person and not online. sphen is in another online game on the paizo.com forums. He might be able to help you a bit more.

I looked into some of the online communities I found and I'm not too sure about those. You have soooo many options. Both Paizo.com and wizard's of the coast will have online forums as well as lookup's for local groups (usually ones that meet at local game stores). If you're comfortable sharing your city/state, I could help with more details. If you want to keep it online, Paizo.com (the company that prints the game we're going to play) has entire forum sections dedicated to play by posts, with built in dice rolling algorithms. You can hope into the thread Flaxseed Lodge to find new games or post your interest. Let me know if you want me to provide any more details on any of these.
