A thread to discuss...
Are you doing it? What are you doing? How is it going? Any helpful tips or tricks?

People kept asking me if we were potty training. I've always been in the camp of ... i'll think about it when she is two or after. She is showing some interest in sitting on the toilet and pretend going and wiping. Due to this, i'm considering getting a kiddie potty seat. I don't think i'll really go all out but want to have it around when she is interested for now. I might sit her on it before bath (I think someone recommended this). I'm thinking the little kid potty as opposed to the things you place over a toilet but open to input.

No. Waiting until at least 2. Probably 2.5, but we'll see how it goes! I'm not in any rush at this point.
With DD we got a kid potty for her to hang out on but when it came down to business (we did the 3 day potty training thing) we got a seat that went on top of the toilet seat. It worked well for us!

We're getting a potty soon. We won't push it or do any real training. I intend to be as lazy as possible about this.

I have DD sit on the potty before bathtime. It's hit and miss. Maybe 1 out of 5 times she actually goes. Last night she pushed so hard she farted! It was pretty funny but that at least tells me she understands the muscles she needs to use. Right now it is literally just for fun because she does like to mimic us and will use toilet paper as well.
We do cloth diapers so if I go to change her and its been a couple hours and her diaper is bone dry that is another opportunity I'll take to put her on the potty.
If she doesn't want to sit on it and try, I don't force it at all.
When they are this young, it's nice to have the stand alone potty seat so they can get on and off themselves. Once potty training really hits its stride I prefer the toilet seat inserts because then you just flush and you aren't cleaning out a potty seat all the time. I have both but right now we are just using DS's old Baby Bjorn potty seat.

DD was mostly day trained before 2 (all her doing) and then regressed for a few months after DS was born.
He has shown interest, and has "finished" pooping on the toilet, but I'm going to take his lead and roll with it.
We Cloth Diaper too and he's got plenty of room to grow in those still.
He's also with a group of kids at daycare around the same age and I know that's why DD trained so early so FX it works for him too.

L loves to sit on her potty. She doesn't always go when she asks to use it, but unless she is asking every few minutes I try to oblige her. She also loves taking her clothes off so I think this is one of the big draws to the potty, becasue she gets to take off the diaper etc. She would definitely be a very happy nudist.

I'm definitely thinking about it. I need to put her on the potty more often, but if I pay attention and take her regularly or ask her she's pretty reliable about saying yes or trying if she needs to. I'm not pushing it until I start seeing her poop on the pot. She's got the peeing thing down, some days we use 3 diapers bc she'll pee in the toilet first. Like scorpioscuba if I notice a dry diaper I put her on the potty immediately. We also go before and after sleep times.

Dd2 likes to sit on the potty chair, but so far hasn’t peed or pooped. She will “try” but has no patience to wait for it. The other morning she had a dry diaper when we woke up, so I put her on the potty chair while I peed in the toilet. She sat there for about 15 seconds, then stood up and peed on the bathroom rug. Oops. I definitely like starting with the potty chair, but we also installed a toilet seat with a built in toddler seat. Like this: Mayfair 183SLOWA 000/1883SLOWA 000 NextStep Adult Toilet Seat with Built-in Child Potty Training Seat, Elongated, White www.amazon.com/dp/B00EPET9SQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_WFYWzbZ09AAZPIt’s so much better than the ones that just balance on top of the regular toilet seat. They are always a little wobbly. Dd1 HATES them.

Speaking of potty training, how do you get a toddler to pee in a public bathroom? Dd1 hates big toilet seats and hates how noisy public bathrooms are. She doesn’t like going in them at all let alone peeing in one. I put a pull up on her when we go places, but she is so used to being potty trained she won’t pee in it so ends up holding her pee in forever. I’m totally worried she is going to give herself a bladder infection.

I need a portable seat for when she is at my mom’s house anyway.

DD1 potty trained herself right before 3. She asked for her panties and only has had maybe 3 accidents in over a year and half. DD2 likes to sit on the little potty but only has pooped once on it. Shes peed once on the little potty. But she loves the seat over the big toilet. She sits on that before bath if big sister isn't on it. And she loves to take off her clothes so she can sit on it. She also doesn't sit on longer than 15-30 seconds. But she has peed 4-5 times in the big toilet.

And my DD1 is afraid of the loud toilets in public. I just cover the sensors or wait till she watching covering her ears to flush.

The dds are up EARLY today and watching Frozen while I get ready. I just overheard dd1 tell dd2 “Anna wears underwear not diapers.” So at least I have a little help in this potty training thing.

Man I don't know about this waking up with a dry diaper thing. I swear she saves her pee for sleeping. Seriously it's so full in the AM sometimes the diaper breaks. 😬

Never had a broken diaper with her though. DD2 isn't has heavy of a wetter and we've had numerous broken diapers and a few where the gel just seeps through and gets on her bottom.

Whoa. PTing wasn't even on my radar yet with DD3. I tried it pretty early with DD1 and then totally backed off. With DD2 I took a "meh, whatever" approach and she pretty much did it on her own. It helped that she was really interested in what DD1 was doing and wanted to copy her big sister. Both of them were around 3 when we completely got rid of day diapers. DD1 got rid of them at night around 4ish, and DD2 got rid of them at the same time as she ditched them during the day (her choice, not mine. she threw fits about getting a diaper on at night, so I left them off and it worked.).
With DD3 I'm just going to see what she does. If she gets interested I'll get out the potty chair again and have her sit while I'm going. If not, then meh. She'll get around to it eventually.
She also pees (and drinks) a ton at night. She regularly leaks and has a wet spot on her pajamas and sleep sack in the morning even though we go up a size at night.

We have a little potty. LO often says poop and pee, but it doesn't always seem correlate to when he's going to go. A lot of times he'll say poop when he farts. I'll usually take him to the potty when he says poop, but he really doesn't like sitting on it naked. He only lasts a few seconds. He has said poop and then sat on the potty with his diaper on and pooped in his diaper. I'm not going to push it until after he's 2. The montessori preschool does emphasize toilet training and there are a few kids in his toddler class that are totally trained, so hopefully that's a good example for him. I think he would have to train before he could move out of the toddler room.

M has suddenly (Like in the last 2 hours) developed some sort of moral objection to diapers. She spent about an hour patting her butt and saying bum, but since her diaper was clean, I just shrugged her off. When I changed her she threw a fit and tried to stop me from putting one on. Looks like we'll be getting a potty next pay 😂

Ls hatred of diapers is impressive. I don't know if she only wants to be naked, or if it's specifically the diaper. I just tell her every time she fights the diaper that as soon as she does all her poops and peeps on her potty she won't have to wear diapers. So far this concept has not filtered down. 😬

Dd3 pooped in the potty!! I needed to change her for nap and could tell she was in the middle of pooping, but normally she waits to finish I the next diaper. This time she used the potty!! Woo hoo!
