Do you add all of you stuff in first? Do you pick a sticker and plan around that? Do you pick washi and then find the stickers?
Tell me where you start!

I really enjoy seeing how others decorate their planners, but decorating just doesn't work for me. In many ways, I feel that means I don't really belong here, but planning & organization is not a one-way fit everyone kind of thing. I don't like the way the stickers/tape makes the pages lumpy for writing. And I need as much space as possible for my to-do list, notes, & appointments. I use "pretty" pages from Franklin Planner or DayTimer and that's decorative enough for me.
But in answer to the bigger question of "How do you use your planner," I can say, I use it to keep track of everything that needs to be written down is in my planner (with the exception of things like passwords, account information or other personally identifiable information). For the actual procedure, at the beginning of the month, I transfer and list any monthly to-dos and deadlines. Then each morning I check the list and add any of those to my daily list (as appropriate), then add any other to-dos that have come up. Throughout the day I check in on my to-do list, ticking off everything that's been completed and at the end of the day, I do a final check and tick off everything that has been done. If I need to, I carry any tasks over to the next day.
I also keep track of my daily calories on my daily pages. And in other sections I keep lists of the books I read; pages of notes at my committee meetings; notes from doctor's appointments and other important meetings. My planner is my address book, my personal goal tracker, and my bank account register. I keep everything important that needs to be written down in my planner, so the ring-bound system is perfect for me -- it means I don't have to re-write everything each year. I can just replace the dated pages and keep going.

Like you said, planning is very person and it very much has to work for the person. In my opinion there is no wrong or right way. In the beginning I didn't decorate very much and I didn't use many stickers. I didn't use washi. Now, I use washi cause in my new planner I do not like the leaves or whatever they had at the bottom.
At the point I have a system and I pretty much use the top for bills that needs to be paid and places that either me or the children need to be.
My 2nd row is pretty much for to dos, errands, etc.
The last row is my TV shows, OOTD, dinner, whatever.
Since I now kind of have my system down I am able to decorate and use stickers. I like having stickers and not having to write all the practices and or games and things like that. I leave a lot of white space compared to most people online but that's fine. I don't feel my way is better or worse, just different.

Also if you watch some people's plan with me videos some of them really evolve in organic ways and just end up looking pretty.
Some people letter, some people layer stickers, some people color code.
I think it's all great.

I generally decide on a sticker that I want for the week and go based on that. I don't use a lot of washi at this point, but sometimes pull a color from my sticker and use that color washi. I have the MAMBI rainbow sticker book which I use a lot, again, pulling from my sticker. Then I go back and add in my functional stickers. Sometimes they match, sometimes they don't and I try not to get too hung up on that. It's great if it matches, but my planners are for me to be organized, the decorating is just a bonus.
