We just learned that if baby doesn't come on his own this weekend, the Dr is recommending a c-section. (Last baby got a little stuck, and this one is measuring bigger).
So, I'm going to ask this week about a "gentle" or "family-friendly" c-section at my appointment on Tuesday. Have any of you had this or will any of you have this? I really like the idea of seeing him be born and doing skin-to-skin right away.
I'm trying to make peace with this, and I think this type of CS would help.
In the mean time, we'll be doing all we can do to coax little guy to come this weekend.

I've only had a regular C section so no advice there, but I've had unproven success with acupuncture and going into labor twice. Maybe try it on Monday an option! Good luck!

With DS we put together a C-section birth plan that included some of the more family friendly aspects like letting the cord stop pulsing before cutting it, that kind of thing. We wanted to do skin to skin but they wrapped him up in a blanket and DH didn't have the wherewithal to unwrap him or ask the nurse for help so we never did that. This time I wrote in the plan 'do not swaddle her in a blanket so we can do skin to skin' and I'm going to make sure DH knows it's his job to put her on my chest and help hold her there. With DS I had an overwhelming urge to try to BF him (some kind of weird mom instinct kicked in) so if that happens again I will attempt it in the OR or in recovery, even though we don't plan to nurse (I will EP again this time).
I found my doctors and the hospital staff were very respectful of the birth plan. Before they started surgery, the nurse anesthetist had everyone in the room (we had NICU staff in there too because he was born early) verbally confirm they had read the plan. And when I started feeling really nauseated they had me confirm like 3 times that YES I wanted an anti-nauseant even though my plan said I didn't. ???

We had an emergency c-section but I did request to have skin to skin right away (as soon as they made sure she was okay). I held her the entire time they closed me up and she even tried to latch in the operating room!
If I need a c-section again this time I will be requesting the same.

parma986, I'm glad to hear this is possible! We never did get to try but I also felt like there wasn't a lot of room, they had the drape almost up to my bra line. I don't know why, it was a normal incision down by my bikini line.

I don't know why, it was a normal incision down by my bikini line. For both of mine the drape was basically at my chest. It started slipping down this time and I had to ask the anesthetist to raise it because my poor tall H was scrunched down so low as to along looking over it.

I'm sure it depends on the hospital; now that more are using the 'Baby friendly designation, I would imagine they would be open to more options after surgery.
My section last week was...not gentle lol. So I don't know if any of that would have been available or not.

I'm not sure what the options are at my hospital, I'll discuss with my doctor at my appointment this week. Last time DS had to go right to the NICU so I only saw him for a minute. I was not doing well when they were closing me up- I was shaking, nauseous, and felt everything. Looking back, it was probably for the best that I wasn't trying to have skin to skin at that time. I'm hoping for a different experience this time, I'd like to be able to have some skin to skin time in the recovery room if possible.

blackmamba, same thing happened to me, had an eCS and I was shaking and shivering plus my BP was tanking too. It was several hours later that I was able to hold him but we were in the same postop recovery room after I was closed up so I got to see him bathe and hear him squeal and he was in hubs arms the whole time 😍 but as soon as I stopped shivering, I got to hold him.

Thanks for checking in duskymonkey and seventythree! The appointment went alright - a cervical check showed no change. The practice met about how to deal with me, and decided to have one more growth u/s before deciding on the c-section. So, we wait again. My brother is getting married this weekend, so I'm crossing my legs and ignoring contractions until Sunday
