Hi, I'm Hawkward. Yesterday, 🍍 🍊 Fineapple 🍍 🍊 reached out to me saying some of you were interested in participating in one of my favorite causes again this year.
Last year, several of us participated in a local-to-me charity that provides handmade warm things (hats, scarves, mittens, and blankets) to foster kids. It serves a high poverty, high military populated area. The goal is to get each child a hat, scarf (if age appropriate) and mittens for their annual Christmas party in early December. The kids are a variety of ages, 0-18, and it's hard to predict how many will be in need, so we try to get as many as possible. Last year, we donated (along with other local crafters) enough that they had a surplus leftover for kids who came into the system later in the winter as well as some extras for local elementary kids that didn't have warm gear for recess.
They're looking for knitted or crocheted hats, scarves, and mittens (I "cheat" and buy mittens because they take me too long to make), as well as baby/toddler-sized blankets and simple sewn drawstring bags for kids to carry their stuff (often kids leave their homes quickly and are given a trash bag to gather their essentials).
As with last year, if we get more of a surplus than the charity can handle, I will donate any leftovers to local military kids.
I'm going to set a "deadline" of November 1 for mailing items to me or 🍍 🍊 Fineapple 🍍 🍊 so that we can make sure to get everything to my point person in time for the Christmas party the first weekend in December.
Thank you so much to everyone who will participate this year and who participated last year!
Update: A wish list has been requested for those who would like to help but don't sew/knit/crochet: www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/QIVD05401TML
