Hi everyone!
My work is doing a Biggest Loser Contest. We have 11 participants, the fee is $28 ($2 per week) for the 14 week contest. 1/2 of the prize money is to be awarded to the highest percentage lost at 7 weeks and the other at the end.
I'm the HR rep for the office and have run 2 TBL contests in the past. But when I was running it we couldn't put in $ so we had prizes like FitBits and gift cards. But with me not starting this one and it not being "company sponsored" we're bending the rules a bit (was started by a few coworkers who came to me last week to see if I would hold the $ and if I wanted in). The ones I ran really fizzled out and the winners weren't very successful, but happened to be the winners because they didn't' drop out and lost a little bit of weight.
Anyway, the contest started Monday and I'm looking for ways to try to engage people more than just "weigh in and pay $2 every Monday".
Any ideas on getting people involved and helping them be successful?

My company does this once a year for a 90 day period. The winner is awarded an extra vacation day ( I guess technically they are given 8.0 hours of comp/misc time). This draws a lot of people in and they get competitive. Don't know if that's something your company would be willing/able to do.
They also have a chart were each person could log their daily workouts and if a person worked out 3 of 5 work days they were entered to win gift cards and prizes. They decided to go this route because the people who didn't need/ want to lose weight were pissed that they couldn't participate and get prizes. I will say that my company has a gym and allow all staff to take 40 minutes out of their workday everyday to work out if they want. So kinda a unicorn situation.
I guess this is my very long winded way of saying that maybe if you focused and rewarded people for working on their physical fitness, not just losing weight, that might have more desire to keep going.

That is awesome! I like the idea of rewarding fitness activities. Since it was started by employees & not the management I'm not sure if we can find $ in the budget for prizes. But I have no problem asking.

Where can I sign up to work with you I know, it's pretty awesome. The surprising thing is not that many people do it (except during biggest loser challenges). I go anytime between 9-11 depending on my schedule and I am always the only one in there. Now during biggest loser challenges, we had to make a schedule and have time slots because there were so many people working out
