We are doing Wizard of Oz.
DD1: Glenda good witch
DS: scarecrow
DD2: Dorothy
My moms dog is the lion. She's a golden doodle do it will be amusing. I need to convince H to be the Tin man I guess.

The girls want to be fairies for Halloween. Or a pirate. Or a monkey. Or....whatever, at this point I may just dig out the costume box and have them pick from that. There doesn't seem to be much passion towards one costume. Dd3 is talking more and more, all grunts and squeals, but she definitely wants things. Today is a sit and wait kind of day. We are getting a new furnace and ac unit at our rental property and our water softener is being inspected by the city this morning. I need to research dishwashers because ours died over the weekend. Apparently 5 years is all they last?? Online this one seems to croak after 18 mo so I guess I'm lucky. I guess the plan for September is to hemorrhage money. Tonight the big girls have swimming lessons and then I'm going to collapse. Did I mention I gag on my own saliva these days? 😞

DD2 talks so.much. It's crazy. D1 was a little delayed with her language and DS was always right on track but this girl has over 50 words and uses two word phrases. She will parrot just about anything. Including yelling at the dogs to "hush" which is amazing. dizzycooks- do you have zofran or diclegis (or anything) to help? MS sucks.

We haven't decided Halloween costumes. We might just go with whatever we have in the house. S has a few from previous years that still fit, and we got a couple of hand me downs for M, so she'll probably be Dorothy or Snow White. Maybe a cabbage patch kid again, since that will be warmer...
She doesn't have many words. Mama, Dada, juh (Jonah), shoes, bye, baby, ball, bum. That's about it. She can still get her point across for the most part though.

thebanich I'm suppose to use b6 and unisom but I felt really weird on the unisom and the b6 doesn't seem to help alone. I'm constantly munching on oyster crackers which is doing nothing for water retention, but whatever.

Hi! Sorry I've been such an absent board member. I've been trying to follow along. We've had a heck of a few weeks. Long story short, we went on a pretty long vacation to visit family (which was great), and on the third day I found out that two of my junior colleagues are leaving, and my nanny is leaving for a full time job. So. It's been crazy. On top of that I had a work trip last week and another one this week, and H has been having some trouble at work.
We moved LO to preschool 5 mornings per week, we're trying out a new nanny this week. She's much younger and less experienced, but I feel like that's ok now that LO is older. Hopefully it works out.
Over the last couple of weeks my LO has started talking so much too. And he recognizes so much stuff! He even has short phrases, and much to our chagrin, he's started repeating things - both "stop it" and "shit" have come out. Oops! It's such a fun stage though.

Heya! I'm not caught up at all (minus a few Facebook posts).
DD keeps saying she wants to be a mouse from Cinderella. Then saying she wants to be Cinderella so my guess is that it'll be one of the two. Either way I think DS will be Gus Gus 🤗
DS *thinks* he's a great talker. Babbles all day about this and that and gets so pissed when we can't understand what he's trying to tell us. He does have a lot of words and starting on sentences ("all done, mama" cutest thing I've ever heard!)
We've been on and off of vacation over the last month and DD started preschool again today so we've just been busy. I'm kind of glad to see summer come to an end. I like the structure the school year brings.
DS got his first big boy haircut and I CANT TAKE THE CUTENESS!! I didn't think I'd be attached to the baby hair (it was seriously out of control) but I find myself missing it! He just looks so much more grown up.
But I have to say. The whining has got to stop. It's literally driving me insane.

Ladies. I'm at a loss. A mom friend of mine threatened to take her life last night. I don't have a ton of details but I do know she went to the hospital for evaluation and was back home this morning. I've tried reaching out to her to offer support but no response. I also texted her husband and he said they were ok. She has 4 kids, the youngest of which is 2 months old. I want to be there for her but don't want to overwhelm by texting and calling. But I don't want her to think she is alone. Im so bad at this and have no idea what to do.

scorpioscuba that is such a tough situation. Do you respect their privacy blah blah and wait for her to contact? or do you reach out again? I don't know the right answer. Her hubs may be being protective (or embarrassed etc) she may just be taking a moment (or embarrassed etc) how well you know them and how they would deal with this would direct how you might handle. I think open ended offers of open arms are usually welcome. I am sorry you have a friend who is in such a tough moment.

scorpioscuba that is so tough. I hope she gets the help she needs. It's actually national suicide prevention week and I've seen some resources floating around online. Depending on how close you are, I might say to text her and tell yoivcare and would like to get together when she feels up to it? Then check back in and offer a date to net of haven't heard from her in a few days. Maybe send a card saying this if text feels obtrusive? Idk that's a tough spot.

Fall is coming! The leaves are starting to change here in the Midwest which seems super early. The days are getting shorter and I realized today we are basically half way between the longest and shortest day of the year. I love fall. Crisp weather, Halloween, foliage, fun stuff. I love Halloween. thebanich I love that idea! We don't have anything planned yet but would like to do something fun. Last year we put dd in an outfit for about ten minutes and took a pic ha. It was an outfit my cousin got that was kind of ballerina themed.

Also, my in-laws are interesting. Dh and I took off work because they planned to fly in to visit tomorrow afternoon. They JUST told us they are flying in but staying with friends and won't be here until Wednesday night even though we took off work. Oh. Ok. Hmmm. We are hanging with them this week although for less time than we originally thought. I am bummed because they don't see dd much but it might not be the worst thing.

scorpioscubaDon't give up. I think you have to keep reaching out. It may put your friendship in precarious place but I think the last thing you should do is back off. She needs all the support she can get

thebanich - I love your theme idea! I am a glutton for themes! DS will be a grizzly bear and DD will be a polar bear - my little bear cubs! scorpioscuba - I am sorry to hear about your mom friend - that is scary stuff! I think that cards and texts chock full of love and support are the way to go. And I already know that you totally rock these sorts of things! kittenmittens - which one is whining? The big one or the little one? DS whined so much when he was three that I seriously considered shipping him to Siberia.

Question for Jan 16 mamas: Would you ever send your kid to a brand new magnet school? A nature magnet elementary school will open in my county in September 2019 right when DS starts kindergarten. It will have an outdoor classroom, Montessori method, etc. But everything will be new - curriculum, etc. There will probably be the usual start up headaches and probably no class division for gifted/talented etc. what would you do?

theoprah I'd do if I agreed with the philosophy. The teachers who end up there typically want to be there and are excited about the concept. That goes a long way on my opinion. It's also an opportunity for you to have a lot of involvement and input if you want.

Thank you for your input! Last night after the kids were in bed, I texted her again, telling her I was running to the grocery store and asked if they needed anything. I live close to her and it's something we've both done for each other in the past. She did respond finally and gave me the run down on what she's been going through, how overwhelmed she is, etc. I'm so glad she finally responded! She wants to get together but said she has to check on when she can do it, so just waiting on her for when she is available. I'll definitely keep up the contact though, thebanich. I think what you said is really important. Thinking of sending her some flowers today.

Aaah! Good luck to you and DD1, nellieoleson! I hope she loves it!!! I'd totally do it theoprah, for all the reasons dizzycooks mentioned. I'd love to have something like that close to me. DS wants to be a policeman for Halloween. He already has the costume because he likes to play dress up. Last year he was a Firefighter so I did DD as a dalmation. Have no idea what to do for her this year that goes with a policeman? Or just do something different? This is probably my last year with her that I get to pick!

*snip* I'll definitely keep up the contact though, thebanich. I think what you said is really important. Thinking of sending her some flowers today. That's a wonderful idea! I think sometimes it seems like backing off is the thing to do when people resist help. After DD2 was born I needed people to keep checking on me and asking what they could do. I wasn't threatening self harm but I felt hopeless enough to think "it would be easier to not be here anymore." Simply acknowledging that something was wrong was enough to make me feel grounded for a little while.

theoprah they both are. I typically say to my DD "I can't understand you when you're whining, can you try asking nicely?" And that usually does the trick but the little one is just insane. I know it's because he can't talk well but good lord, I want to poke my eyes out!

Ugh. Poor dd1. She FLIPPED out when I left. I could hear her still crying hysterically out the second floor window 20 minutes later. They had to send one of the front office ladies in to help. A boy in there was having a hard time, too. And half the 2 1/2 year olds were sobbing, so she wasn't the only one, but it's so hard! I want to go get her and take her home and tell her she never has to leave my side again. But I won't.

nellieoleson hopefully she'll perk up quickly! That is so hard! Has she been apart from you before? If this is a first I'm sure it'll take more time.
