Hello all. I have some issues I want to get opinions on.
I have pelvic pain on a regular basis. It's sometimes sharp sometimes crampy. I don't have a noticeable period. (But a lot of discharge all the time) I have been to both my GP and an OB and had an ultrasound with basically no answer. The tech thought there might have been a cyst in my uterus because she saw a pocket of fluid but I assume that would mean that it had burst. They said that my IUD is in place although she had a little trouble find one of the arms.
This is my second mirena and I'm starting to think it is the root cause of the pain. I have little evidence other than some random other people having posted about similar pain on the web. I would just schedule to have it removed but it's pretty much the only successful BC I've ever used. An oops baby is not an option right now. At the same time I'm not ready to make any permanent decisions. I'm 29 and it just seems too soon. I'm holding out hope for the stars to align for a fourth in a few years.
1) has anyone ever experienced something like this before?
2) any advice going forward? It's not unbearable pain all the time but it's not ideal either.

No experience or advice unfortunately. I'm sorry you're dealing with this? Is there something besides Mireya you could try?

No experience or advice unfortunately. I'm sorry you're dealing with this? Is there something besides Mireya you could try? I'm too forgetful for BCP and I'm just not a fan of the various side effects. A few people have told me that they prefer the copper IUDs but I don't know. I really need to sit down with my obgyn and talk about it.

No experience or advice either, but I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Maybe ask your OB about other types of birth control that you don't have to take every day - I tried the ring for awhile and didn't love it, but some people think it's great. I've known people who've used the shot, patch, implant, etc. with varying degrees of happiness.

I had a similar although more extreme (all the time and a fair amount) of pain/discomfort with a copper IUD. I got it removed and was very quickly better. In my case turns out I am allergic to copper. I don't know how that relates to what you are experiencing. My only advice is if your are u comfortable, listen to your body. I spent almost 12months miserable, becasue I didn't. Not worth it.

Sorry that sucks. I would remove the iud to see if that's the source. If it's not, I would get another opinion. I hope you can find a BC that works for you.

Maybe you just got a crappy one. Would your OB be willing to swap out your current Mireya for a new one? Maybe it's improperly placed or digging into you or something. I think you are right to talk to your OB about potential solutions. How long have you been in discomfort? Ever since you got it?

I had paraguard (the copper one) in between pregnancies. I really didn't have any issues with it though during sex, I did think I could sometimes feel it which isn't supposed to be possible. But I've never had that feeling again since having it removed. I know, I'm no help. I'd get it removed though and see how you feel for a couple of months to try to narrow down the source of the pain.

I'm just super terrified of getting pregnant so I'm waffling on what to do.

Maybe look into the implant or ring or another longer-term but not permanent option? I'm sorry you're in pain, that sounds like it really sucks. It does seem like IUDs cause pelvic pain in many women, so I think it's at least a realistic guess at what the problem might be.

Since it's only the past month or two that you've had pain, and they had a hard time finding part of it on an ultrasound, perhaps it shifted or something? I mean, the arms are attached, so how could they have a hard time finding one of them? That seems weird. Is it all in tact? I'd explore theoprah's suggestion and see about getting a new one placed.
