I hate my Honda CRV with a passion. Dh pushed for it when we got it in 2014 and I should have stuck to my guns then and said no. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just so vanilla and boring. I have wanted a Mazda CX-5 for years and have been eyeing them up lately. So here's a list of pros and cons of trading in now vs waiting. Tell me what to do
Pros to trading now: Still a good trade in value
Haven't had to put a lot of money into the Honda but approaching 50,000 miles so that could change
I would be happier
Cons to trading in: Our cars are paid off. So it would be about a $250 a month commitment. Although I just saved us $400 a month on health insurance by switching us to mine so that would help
We need to replace our fence within the year so the $ could go towards that
C is still a slob and while I don't care about my Honda getting messy, I will likely be anal about a new car
There's nothing wrong with the Honda.
Dh is not quite on board since he doesn't drive it. He had a Mazda 3 so he's happy
-------
Also if I did trade in, should I wait until year end? Are he deals that much better?

I hate car payments with a passion.
I also look at vehicles at just a form of transportation; so paid off, working newer vehicle is more important to me than having something that is nicer. I would rather spend money on home maintenance, vacations, or whatever I want than car payments no matter the amount.
So my vote would be to keep the Honda. Boring, I know. 🤷♀️

Are you sure the payments would be that high? I haven't price checked the cx-5 but my Santa Fe was around 33k, plus some rebates off of that and my payment is $250 a month. I'm leasing too so maybe that's the difference.

That said, I personally am one that cares about what I drive. I had a Camry before my crv and I hated it. Felt like such a mom car and I couldn't wait to get rid of it. So for me, I'd probably get the one you want.

How long are the payments if they are only $250 a month? Like 7 years?

I would double check to see exactly what your payment would be with your trade in. But, I'm with vino. My car is paid off and I will be driving it until it dies because I don't want a car payment.

I feel like they're just to get you from A to B safely, so I would be happy sticking with it. Also, one reason I love Honda is they are so low-maintenance. I wouldn't expect to have any major repairs for at least another 50k miles. I have never heard good things about Mazda being nearly as reliable.

I'd keep the car. Spend the money on something else, like vacations or retirement. There's some random stat that the most millionaires drive camrys bc they are frugal and keep a reliable just fine car, instead of getting something nicer that they could probably afford.
We have an '08 CR-V and I'm over it, but we are keeping it for at least another 100k. MH had a Civic that got 260k😮.
That said, I am a car person and very much miss my VW bug. So I get it. My sister has a CX5 and it is nice and I hear fun to drive.

I'm constantly car shopping, so I get being bored with your car. But I also loathe car payments so I had my last car for 13 years and we plan to keep our current ones for 10 years. Cars are basically just a waste of money.

I'd probably keep the crv, as well. That money could go to something really fun-like a trip or home renovations.

I like the fun of a new car, but ultimately am cheap and hate payments. I refuse to pay interest and only get deals with higher payments but no interest. My last car I got a really good deal on Black Friday so if you really want something new it may be worth waiting until closer to the end of the year. In my case it was an extra $1000 off. Always remember to ask about the Costco deals. I don't waste my time talking nonsense and make it clear right away. The Costco deals cut through some of the crap, but you can still get better deals on top of those. I also agree with what chrisy01 said. At this point in just a few years C will be in a backless booster and you wouldn't have a massive car seat ruining the seats of your car. That's my plan with a new vehicle, I'll get one when I'm done with big car seats and never have to care about LATCH again.

We did the Costco car buying program for the Prius and were very happy with it.

I'm just not a huge car person. As long as my car is pretty comfortable and has air/heat, I'm good. My car is an 2008 Escape and I'm holding out as long as possible because I so don't want another car payment. So I'm with Vino, I'd keep the current car.

I also care about what I drive. Once my explorer tried to kill me (y'all remember my tire falling off while I was driving?) I WAS DONE with it. I was pissed off the second I got in every.single.time. And it's not even anout it being a fancy or nice car. Just something I like. So I woukd do it. Even with that added payment, you're still saying $150 a month from the I stance change. Pocket that for the fence.

I'm a car person and have definitely made some decisions that aren't the best from a financial standpoint. Like buying brand new cars and trading them in after two years. Four times in a row. 😬
So it's no surprise to anyone who knows me that I say get the car you love!

This is on my mind. wedding what did you decide? To stay with what we have. Our RE taxes just went up so most of the extra money will go to that😔
