So say one of the biggest hurricanes ever is about to land on the island you're supposed to be going to in less than a month- potentially causing catastrophic damage, where might you plan to go instead?
It's just my sister and I. It's for her 30th birthday. We have 4 nights. Our flights are with Southwest (thankfully) so we can hopefully rebook anywhere they fly.

SW flies to the Carolinas. If you want beachy vibes. Denver is a cool city, too. Personally, I'd do brewery tours in Denver, but I'm partial to that area 😊

I've never been but have college teammates that live out there and they rave about how amazing it is.

I'd suggest Portland, but it's on fire... Colorado is awesome, and a SW hub. Or fly to San Fran and go to Napa Valley and drink all the wine?

In 2014 I went to Acadia National Park in Maine in October. It was amazing. But quiet... off season. But that's what I would do.
You'd need a car to get there though.

Where were you headed mc13,? I've been to the british virgin islands multiple times and they are getting a head on hit right now. I've been spiraling on community fb pages, but it seems power is now gone. Anyway...I was going to say hilton head or myrtle beach but they may be gone too. Inland seems good. CO, chicago, vegas..depending on the type of trip you want.

What experience do you want? I'm a huge fan of eating and drinking, so I'd love to go someplace with a great food/beer/spirit scene. DH really wants to go to Kentucky and do a distillery tour. Or maybe somewhere with great hiking and biking. Or lovely beaches.
Or maybe consider still going where you were going to go. Vermont got destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene just a month before our peak tourist season. But our tourists were awesome and contributed greatly to our recovery. It made a huge difference.

It seems that the storm might have been further north than the island so we'll definitely wait and see how things play out before cancelling anything. We want something with a mix of historical, outdoorsy (was planning on hiking in El Yunque National Forest and kayaking in the bioluminescent bay), and relaxation.

Sedona is another option, it's about 2 hours from Phoenix.
