dizzycooks wow you have a lot going on. How was your appt? It was totally just an info collection. I go tomorrow again and get an ultrasound and see the PA. Tomorrow is also our MOPs kick off so that's kind of freaking me out. I haven't quite finished my part of the prep. Dd2 starts prek tomorrow!! I still need to do her board for pictures poor kid. And I'll know the sentencing results by noon. I finally reached the prosecutor and got my victim impact statement sent in.

Anyone have a smaller double stroller they love? Bonus points if it fits a Chico car seat. I love my britax bagile, but it's not going to fit real well in my next car. It'll fit, but not something I'd like in there on the regular. Help!

S got detention for talking in class today. It's the second day of school. Definitely my kid. And I can almost guarantee that moving him away from his friends wouldn't help, because he'll talk to anyone. Definitely my kid 😂 I just hope I don't have the homework struggles my parents did.

It'll fit, but not something I'd like in there on the regular. Help! We have a really compact one we've used for flying before. It's basically a double umbrella but the seats fully recline, it has Sun shades, a basket underneath, etc. Remind me in a few days and I'll look and see what it is. You could not put your car seat in it.

We made it to London. Kids slept very little. It feels like 5 am and the kids for maybe 2 hrs of sleep in the plane. As you can imagine, everyone is in a lovely mood. But at least no one else has gotten the stomach bug so far.

I can't believe they have detention at that age?? Especially on the second day of school? I was a lot like that as a kid, too. Always talking too much in class, not focusing, and in later years not doing my homework. I think I had undiagnosed ADHD.

They didn't keep him after school. I started refusing to do my homework somewhere around grade 2. Which is also when I stopped liking school. My teacher hated kids. My parents got me a tutor thinking that it was because it was too hard for me, and it sort of worked, she'd bring a book and we couldn't read until I had finished my math. But really, I think the issue was everyone telling me how smart I was, so I figured if we all knew it, why should I do homework to prove it lol.

That is a big no no here. There is also no way they would keep a kid after school bc how would they get home? I'm surprised by that on the second day. Hopefully he learned his lesson, but I'd expect the teacher to have management and plans to help him avoid being in that situation in the future.

I've had quite a day... woke up with some stomach issues then was evaluated for Lasik. I'm having a lot of anxiety about the Lasik and wondering if I should go through with it. They dialated my pupils and I couldn't work and had to lay down so getting a really late start on my work. Wah. lollipop I was a big talker. I remember in high school a teacher wouldn't let anyone sit near me. Ha.

I'm on the bench that detention in 1st grade and then on the 2nd day is....extra. I mean, really? I was also a talker in school. I never got detention. Teachers should have other classroom management techniques to work with behavior that may be distracting to others in the class, outside of jumping to an immediate punishment. Negative consequences come in when the behavior is repeated and not resolved through other means. I'd be talking to the teacher if this were my kid. DS is in 1st grade. The entire first week or 2 the teacher was very clear that it was all about getting to know one another and building relationships with their new classmates, learning the classroom, etc. They need to talk to do that!

Honestly I have no idea exactly what happened. All of my information is coming from my less than reliable 6 year old. He said he got detention for talking. Whether that means he got like a time out that they called detention or he got held back from recess for a few minutes for a talking to, I don't know. When I was at that school the first thing teachers tried was moving the talker. I assume she tried that and he continued talking and being disruptive.

H forgot what time school started and left like half an hour earlier than necessary. Which is better than late, but I'm laughing. It's a good thing they walked instead of driving, as that adds 10-15 minutes to the trip over.

No energy. None. I feel like the worlds worst mother. We have done nothing fun this week. And by fun I mean, anything I have laid on the couch and sat and watched them play. I have zero energy. Does anyone have vitamin d deficiency? That came back I my blood work yesterday as extremely low. Any experience with that?

We're home! Got back to the house around 8pm last night, had a snack and let the kids play a bit, then everyone was in bed by 9:30. Other than DD3 needing a bottlw once and DD2 coming to sleep next to me for 2 hours, it was a very quiet night and everyone got up (or "was gotten up") at 9am this morning. I'm hoping they adjust well to the time, but this was a very auspicious start.

dizzycooks - I remember that no energy/bad mom feeling from my first tri with dd2. It's awful. Just remember it will pass, you will have energy again, and you are a good mom doing the best you can right now. As far as I know almost everyone living in more northern latitudes has some degree of Vit D deficiency - and that's why they recommend supplements for it. The for of Vit D that is in most multivitamins (including prenatals) isn't the form that's best absorbed. It also isn't a high enough dose. I'm sure your doctor can give you guidance on what to take to get your levels up. Maybe look into supplements for your girls, too?

So glad you made it home in one piece and it seems sleep is on a good path, crimsonandclover! dizzycooks, ugh. I'm so sorry but don't beat yourself up over it. You typically have more energy than anyone I know. A few days or even weeks of some slower days will be fine for the girls. Sometimes I think it's good for them to be bored...they find interesting things to do! I live in AZ and I have vit d deficiency too....go figure. But we live in sunscreen, hats, etc so I guess it makes sense. My dr gave me a rx for a once a week pill. I took it and never refilled it. Ooops. Also, I realized today that I can barely see the major mountains to the east of us....there is such a strong haze over our whole valley and it's from the fires up in the PNW, etc. Crazy how it's coming this far.

And the homework battles have started 😥 at pick up the teacher told H that S needs to practice his letters at home. She said to use a whiteboard so he could make them nice and big. When he gets better, she'll send home work sheets with smaller ones. So we got out the whiteboard and sat him down to practice. It took an hour and a half to go through the alphabet, and he cried and whined and said it was too hard.
I need to call and apologize to my mother for being such a pain about homework 🤣

lollipop there is no way a 1st grader should be spending an hour and a half doing anything, nevermind school related. Can I ask what his issues are with letters? Recognition? Formation? Pencil grip? There are amazing ways for him to practice without just sitting "doing homework". I'd be happy to link some ideas if you want.

+1 to what dizzycooks said. When DS has letter work it is usually 1 or 2 letters they are focusing at a time. Not the whole alphabet at once. I'd cry and whine too! 😂

dizzycooks, I had really serious exhaustion with DD3 that turned out to be my thyroid - did they check your TSH (actually a pituitary hormone, but if it's high then it's an indication that your pituitary gland is having to work too hard to stimulate your thyroid gland)? Thankfully it is a standard part of the bloodwork here, so they caught it. I felt like I couldn't get out of bed in the morning. That's probably not what yours is, but I thought I'd throw it out there as a possibility if Vit D doesn't seem to help. I guess it's not uncommon in pregnancy - women already on thyroid meds usually need to up their dosage during pregnancy, too, my OB said.

And lollipop, I agree with everyone else. 1.5 hours of homework on the 3rd day of 1st grade is not normal, and I don't think it's setting your DS up for a healthy attitude toward school. I like dizzycooks's suggestions and also think you should just work on a couple of letters each evening. I doubt the teacher meant you should drill him on the entire alphabet every night. If you turn it into playful and short homework time, you'll likely get much better results on the letters now and on homework in general later on.

kcrkcs, dizzycooks, lollipop, anyone want to do a Fitbit work week challenge again? I need motivation to get moving again after my vacation, and for some reason my dashboard isn't letting me initiate challenges at the moment. I haven't looked at the scale since I left in mid-August - whenever I'm back I want to eat my favorite foods from home without worrying about the lbs. Now it's time to get back into a routine that helps me lose weight, though. Also, does anyone else now have a fitbit and want to get in on the challenges?

We could have been done in like 20 minutes, but he kept farting around and getting distracted. And whining. His teacher asked us to make him do the whole alphabet every day.

dizzycooks most of your suggestions are what they did in kindergarten. I think he's behind the other kids which is why he needs more practice.
