Yep, I got asked tonight if my boys (ages 11 and 2) were my grandkids.
When I told him no they are my sons he then asked if they are adopted.
I'm not offended (I find it humorous) and I know I'm an older mom. But you'd think people would know not to even ask.
And while I'm old enough to have a 2-year-old grandchild, the older one would be a bit of a stretch.

Aren't people just the worst sometimes? I love that the random stranger couldn't stop after one prying question but had to take it even farther. At least you can see the funny side of it!

SIL is Korean and their oldest daughter has blond hair and green eyes. When she was a baby everyone just assumed SIL was the nanny. People would always ask whose baby she was and how long SIL had been looking after her.
I'm not sure why strangers need to "know" all about your life. I get interesting comments from people too when they ask if DD has any siblings and I say no. It doesn't bother me either but some of the things people say just makes me laugh and shake my head.

my head explodes with both anger and some inexplicable shame. I hate that I have some embarrassment about it-- for them, for me, and the question- when will my kiddo notice his mom is comparatively ancient? Also, my SO is a few years younger, but looks really young and I hate that she NEVER gets that question, tho since none of her kids are her bio kids she often gets the babysitter, nanny or adoption question.

I get embarrassed when people ask inappropriate questions because I'm embarrassed for them. I looked at his wife because I thought she'd speak up and tell him he shouldn't ask that, but she just stood there with a blank stare.

People never cease to amaze me. I live in an area with a lot of very young mothers and I know a few people I graduated high school with are grandparents so while I haven't gotten the question yet I know I will eventually. When I was in high school, people used to ask me if my dad was my grandfather and he was younger than I will be when my kids are that age.

People suck! I'm so sorry you were asked petrichor - but I do LOVE that you can find humor in it 😉 And sleepymonkey - I can't believe they asked you about your dad being your grandfather! The strangest comment I've received so far was whether I was shopping for friends' kids while buying baby clothes (MH was at home w/ our daughter while I ran some errands solo). When I replied saying "no, they're for my daughter..." the sales lady who asked looked really surprised - almost shocked. I didn't know how to feel about it - I just thought it was an odd question/reaction lol!

I'm sorry, I often get surprised at how many people are just generally asses.
