I think I've mentioned before that S has 3 really close boys that he's friends with from school, and we've become friendly with their families. Last June, 1 of the boys left to go to another school, but we still see them a few times a month on the weekends and S still says the little boy is is best friend.
There's also a little girl who's been in DC with him since he was a few months old. He adores her and I do to. He always tells me that she's my best friend too, and 1 day he told me he was going to marry her when he grows up. I've spoken to her dad a few times at pick up but never connected with them outside of DC. Last night I overheard him telling the teacher that Thursday is her last day at DC.
I am irrationally devastated at this little girl leaving the school. I know this sounds weird, but I love that one of his best friends is a girl, and he and the boys are very rough and stereotypically "boy-ish" so I've enjoyed him exploring the other side of his personality with her.
It also brings me back to where I was a year ago with thinking about leaving my school for another. I think I have to do it. But I am terrified to make the change. I feel frozen with the decision!

Sunny41, this will be our first year for a "friend" party. I'm a bit anxious about it. What if no one comes? ??? That was me last year. Don't worry, they'll come. Most parents are looking for something to keep the kids busy on the weekends!

Same - and it will probably be Thanksgiving weekend (his birthday is the 25th, and I just checked, it falls on that Saturday). So I fear many of his friends will be away. This is our constant battle too. B's bday is the 26th. I've never done her party on that wknd bc I figured people would be away or busy w family. I did the first Sat in December last year.

I can't remember if you FB or not. This happened to us when Cadence's bff was leaving. I hadn't really talked to the mom much, but I knew Cadence was going to be devastated, so I looked the mom up on FB and sent her a friend request. Now Cadence can still see her friend in pictures and if we ever want to do a play date or whatever I can reach out to her. And invite her to Cadence's birthday, of course.

I think we are just doing the family party again this year for C. It's my dad's 60th so it will be a little bigger but no friends aside from his cousins. We are going to Great Wolf Lodge mid October and I am surprising him with my brother and his sons coming too and we will have a cake. So that will be a little bday celebration.

Dr's appointment went well. He was very happy with all of my blood sugars. I did wait for almost 40 mins for the 1st appointment of the day and then had to speed to work so that was frustrating.

Ugh! I just got Josie's class list. We're staying with the afternoon group, but I wish I had known that attendance could drop significantly. Last year there were 11 kids in her class and now there are only 5. The two morning sessions have 12 kids each, so I guess a lot of the afternoon group moved to the morning. It might be nice that she'll get more one on one attention, and it may end up being a close knit group of kids, but I was hoping to keep the volume higher for more social interaction.

So far Atticus has requested the following party themes: Paw Patrol, Moana, Lion King, PJ Masks, "Baby Frog and Baby Dinosaur," and a "Wildebeest party."
I think we're probably just going to do something at the park and I'll ask him in another month or so to settle on something.

guster target is a good one! Re: DIY I'll probably end up doing a lot of things myself. I always make the character cake myself, which believe it or not, usually takes me a whole day. Re: friends party, besides family friends, no friends yet. Usually this starts when they turn 5 around here. And then you have a family party and a party for friends. The party for friends usually has a certain activity, treasure hunt, visiting a movie theatre, swimming, sleep over etc.

I do have his phone number b/c a long time ago we exchanged numbers to get the kids together, so I might reach out to him when we go to the park or something to invite them along.

Will more people join as the year goes on? Our school does rolling admission so we start at a low number but usually max by January.

Josie was the late addition to her twos class, but no one came in to the threes.

N just had a daycare friend leave last week who she had just become closer with. She has been saying she misses "R" everyday We just found out last week that our friends are moving out of state within a few weeks. I'm mostly bummed for N. Her and their little girl have been besties since N was a baby. She was the first "mom friend" I had. We used to be very close, but we have grown apart over the last year so I'm not super sad, but it's still a bummer. I knew they weren't going to stay here forever so it wasn't a huge surprise. I haven't told N yet. She's going to be so sad. I'm hoping we can at least get together one more time for the girls to play.

Charlie will not nap this morning. Normal bedtime last night, normal wake up this morning. Breakfast, milk nothing out of the ordinary. I put him up at 10:15 -- screamed in his face off. I put him back up at 11:30. Just more screaming . I don't think it's going to happen. This better not be an indication of the school year is going to be like.

I would totally pay to not have to do any planning for a 4 year old's birthday party. Hey guys?... our babies are about to be 4.
