As I mentioned in the randoms yesterday, we are going to go on our first (and hopefully only) preschool tour in a few weeks. I have the major details like cost, hours, day/timing options, etc. But what are things I should be on the look out for/asking about?
LO will be 2.5ish when she starts and in the 2s class, most likely going 3 days a week ("full days", ends at 2:30). But if we like this place/get in she would probably go through Pre-K.

We moved when my son was 2.5 and had to find a new preschool.
Things that we noticed/looked at:
Schedule - how many days is the preschool closed, is it year round? (One we looked at was only during the school year, so we'd have to find camps for the summer. They also did a 2 week spring break)
How the teachers interact with the students
How the students interact with each other
Atmosphere - does it feel like a zoo? Super sterile?
How do they handle discipline?
How do they handle naptime?

I have seen the schedule, and it's a school schedule not a daycare schedule, but I only work PT and from home and we don't have any regular child care now, so that works for us... this is more to start LO in school than necessarily providing childcare (although that is obviously an added bonus) they have add ons that turn it into more year round and less holidays, but I don't think we will do that.

My sister recommended my DC because of the type of curriculum it follows for both preschool and prek. I'd ask about those type of details. I'm also always interested in the playtime esp outdoors. What they do, where, walks, etc. I also like that I get a calendar of the meals served.

When we were looking at nursery schools for DS (he only goes 9am -12pm), some of our main things to ask about were:
-how they discipline the kids and address conflict when it arises between students
- general schedule and types of activities (circle time, music time, outdoor play, water play, outside play, visual/artistic exploration, what does snack time and lunch time look like)
- on the topic of snacks/eating - do all kids sit at the table? Do they work on table manners?
-philosophy on organization and tidying up (one place we looked at seemed really disorganized and they didn't make the kids clean up - which I was not a fan of)
- what is pick up and drop off like. Does the teacher take time to communicate what happened during the day and how your kid is doing at school? This was really important for us too.
I will be back if I can think of any more things!

I didn't even think about discipline but that's such a good thing to think about!!!
I do know some of these things from their online info but it will be good to see in action...
