There is a long backstory about why we are throwing this party, I will spare you.
My anxiety is at an 11 about this birthday party. We decided to throw it at the last minute(ish). The parties we have had for O were family only and in July so outside in our backyard. This party will be in September and the weather is very unpredictable here that time of year. We also decided to invite more than just family, so there are approx. 30 people coming to my house now. Kids age range from 16-1. I'm not opposed to a theme but something simple and non-commercialized. We were thinking of having a craft for the kids to do but is there anything that would appeal to a 1 year old and a 16 yo? Do adults just sit around at parties like these? We requested no gifts so there will no opening of gifts as something to do. If we can be outside we are able to borrow a bounce house and we have a small sand table and water table.
I'm mostly terrified that people will not have a good time and we will look like poor hosts. All the help requested.

Theme: birthday. Balloons, streamers. "Happy Birthday!" signs. Crafts: a table with paper, crayons. Stickers, maybe. Tape. Maybe stuff to make a mask, or coloring pages, or something. If there's a significant number of teenagers, it may be nice to provide them something to do. But the last time my nieces (13 and 16) attended a party at my house, they played with the younger kids and hung out with the adults. Indoor options: a small parachute for sitting on, lifting up, putting toys in, etc. Trucks, toys, dolls.

Keep it simple like OR said. Your kids' toys will entertain the children. Provide beer and food. It will be fine. My sons 2nd birthday was sort of this way. It was supposed to be outside but there was a monsoon. The kids played. The grownups ate, drank, and talked. No activity was provided except food and cake. Done. It was chaos but fun.

We're planning on doing food, providing some coloring sheets for the kids that are old enough (kids range from 8 months to 4, may have one that's 13), a pinata, possibly a bounce house, depending on family politics, and food. I figure the kids will mostly entertain themselves, and parents can eat and watch children.
Our theme is monsters, but I'm mostly just printing off a package and hanging things.

Nugget's 1st birthday party was at our house (in November) and pretty chill. We had some food and beer and ordered pizzas to eat. No real activities, the kids just played with toys and the adults hung out. If the weather is going to be nice, set up some stuff in the backyard for the kids to play with.
Theme wise, you could just pick some colors, or I like the "Wild One" theme, where you decorate with outdoorsy stuff and woodland or jungle animals. Or just do generic birthday stuff and call it a day. Crazy themed birthdays are overrated.

We rented a cotton candy machine for O's party this year. D made a bunch and then then turned it over to everyone else. The older kids were all over it and the younger kids were eating it. Even some adults had fun with it. It was a hit for everyone. ETA we rented it from ace hardware store. They had tons of stuff, next year we're totally getting the dunk tank
