I voted for Pampers, because when we are in the USA, Pampwers swaddlers were always the diapers we would stock up on to bring back home with us. However, locally we use MamyPoko, which is a Japanese brand and the most popular option out here. They don't have the gel powder in them or the wetness line indicator that most american diapers do; they're also a lot thicker (so they take up more space in the diaper bag....grrrrr...) However, MamyPoko gets the job done, so I can't complain. I do love the Pampers swaddlers though....wish we could get them here.
I would also love to CD, but it just wouldn't work for our family lifestyle. We travel so frequently (DS is only 2.5 and we are already needing to renew his passport because he has filled up ALL his passport pages), and CD would just not work. I do feel guilty about the environment with the disposables, and when DS was in diapers I tried to dump poop from disposables in the toilet before throwing the diaper away (technically I guess everyone is supposed to do that). That said, I don't want to invest in all these cloth diapers and then use disposables pretty frequently due to all of our travel. Dilemmas, dilemmas...

August Blooms not really helpful since we have always used the Pampers sensitive wipes without any issues. But I have also heard good things about water wipes for extra sensitive or rash prone babies.

August Blooms we use Kirkland wipes, but DD never had problems with skin sensitivity.

As for wipes, we used Earths Best but recently switched to Pampers Sensituve though we really don't need them anymore.
I have a ton of skin allergies and some wipes bug me but not my kids. Pampers used to bother me and those Water Wipes because they have a chemical called isobutylene gycol that I'm allergic too. Those wipes aren't just water!

We will use Pampers again. I haven't really tried another brand to compare, but we've never had leaks or issues. For wipes, Huggies or target brand is what I usually pick up.

Hopefully this kid doesn't have super sensitive skin, those water wipes are expensive! I have almost a full box of the ones I like left over, so I'll use those up and try a few brands before we settle on something.

For wipes, we like Huggies Natural Care. I used to pick up Target Sensitive wipes once in a while but they've changed them and I don't like them at all now.
I never liked Huggies diapers but I've heard their overnight ones are great. We're currently using Pampers overnight diapers in a size up and still need to use a Sposie diaper booster liner in them to prevent DS from leaking/waking up wet. :/

For wipes, I loved Seventh Generation for the first year or so (thicker, so easier for blowouts), now we just use Wegmans brand.

For wipes we mostly used cloth ones at home, but Kirkland in the diaper bag/car and have them still for face wiping etc

DS was a preemie so we went with what the hospital used which was pampers swaddlers. Once he was out of newborn, I used what I got from my shower (pampers and honest). I also used S&S from amazon but then my friend got me into couponing (I still look on amazon for any good deals though). I usually will buy diapers if it's about 13 cents per diaper. So for this one, we'll try to stock up on as many pamper swaddlers from the hospital and then whatever I have in my stockpile. Last haul for DS was $1.46 for a huggies jumbo pack!

We used Honest for the past 2 years with DS and will continue to unless we have to make a budget cut. But we'll do Pampers for newborn and then switch at size 1.

When it comes to wipes, the only wipes I like are SAMs brand sensitive. They are hypoallergenic and cheap!! And so fantastic. I never have them rip or tear and I always can just get a single wipe out of the package. They aren't smelly or slimy. Even people with super sensitive skin don't have issues with them. And they aren't too wet or dry out easily. Pampers are just slimy and smelly. Huggies are a huge pain in the butt!! I DESPISE Huggies wipes.
Otherwise, I'm good with honest, seventh gen, or babyganics. I just wish babyganics and honest had a better seal on the packaging. I hate when I can't close the wipes well and they dry out.

As for wipes, we've been using Amazon Elements Baby Wipes, Unscented. They also have a Sensitive option, we got a pack in our Baby Box but haven't used them yet. We've also used Target, SAMs Club, and Aldi brands with no problem. DS never had any skin issues though, hopefully baby girl is the same.

Cloth diaperer #4 checking in! Honestly, finances and the environmental factor are my main drivers.
Money-wise, I recently did a tally and I think we've spent around $550 on diapers over 27 months -- and that includes some NB stuff I purchased for #2. The early-PT anecdotes definitely gave me some motivation, it hasn't worked out that way over here buuut I'm not crying about still spending $$ on diapers, either. The bonus is that we will reuse everything for #2, so even if we supplement/update our supplies, the overall investment per child will be fairly low. Plus, assuming they are in good condition, I should be able to resell at least some of our diapers once we are finished.
Environment-wise, I'm generally not a fan of disposable anything. This really is the big one for me -- if I was working, I'd probably look into paying for a diaper service (we were gifted one for 8 weeks when DD was born, it was wonderful!) before using disposables full-time. We do use disposable wipes (Kirkland brand FTR), so maybe that makes me a hypocrite, but at least it's less waste than if we were using both.

ssm Honest has improved their wipe packaging with a plastic thingie that snaps closed. I agree with you about Pampers wipes being slimy! I've never used Huggies but am now curious about what makes them suck so bad.

Late here, we've been using Pampers since that's what worked well for us. I bought a bunch of "small" packs in the beginning to try what fit best. I had random leaks in all of them and the worst was Huggies and never had a leak with Pampers so we just stuck with that. I actually have been thinking of CD this time around since I am anticipating being home for a while and considering working from home and also have since found out it's not too bad with the available liners etc.I had the "ancient" thinking of CD lol! where you would just use those Gerber napkins with an outer waterproof thingy . On second thoughts disposables are much easier for my folks to handle and with DS I went back to work after 8 weeks and with working FT, just wasn't feasible to deal with the constant laundry. CoachTsWife, what additional liners are you talking about? Just recently in the last few weeks, DS has been constantly leaking out of his pampers overnight swaddlers and its a drag having to change sheets 2x a day! Even though he's in undies during the day, he still isn't able to control it during nighttime and naps. I prob should cut his milk before naps and bedtime too He's actually woken up dry a lot but the leaks happen when he dawdles and is being stubborn about getting out of bed and going to potty.

Re: Wipes. We actually used a damp Viva paper towel with DS and hardly had to deal with diaper rash. DS initially had diaper rashes the first few weeks because again I had gotten several different brands to try and swiped the wipes from the hospital and then my sister told me to just use the damp paper towel after I ran out and DS' bum was so much better after that so we just stuck with that. We would get the "choose a sheet" and fold it in 4 and kept a few dampen ones in a wipes tub ( we were gifted one of those warming tubs but never bothered to use it other than storing the damp towels ) so whilst DS slept during the day, I would fold a bunch overtime and kept up with the "stack". Also Triple Paste! is the most effective bum rash cream. It's $$ but it's totally worth it. Forget anything else.

I've never used Huggies but am now curious about what makes them suck so bad. every. Single. Time. I try to pull a wipe out one of two things happens. It shreds into pieces and I get a torn corner or some ridiculous unusable piece. Or the entire freaking package comes out instead of one wipe. Just drives me absolutely insane. All my friends swear by them. They do. Me? Nope. Never. Not even as a gift for someone else! And that's nice to hear about honest upgrading their closure!!

I'm on tapa so can't do the poll but we plan to use pampers for this baby as well. We tried up&up with DS but they gave him a rash. Honest diapers were stiff and I can't justify the cost. We didn't like huggies, had leaking issues.
We order our diapers through Amazon subscribe and save, with a few other subscriptions we pay $37 per box instead of $42. We also subscribe and save for wipes and are trying out the Amazon brand wipes. I've heard great things and more for the money. Subscribe and save was life changing, no more running out for diapers last minute.

Another Cloth Diaper mama here! We love it for all the reasons everyone else has already said lol. Never had a blowout when we started Cloth, and never had a bad diaper-rash, plus I love all our prints! We have a full stash of one sized pockets my 20 month old used, he is now basically potty trained and only uses 3 or so a day. We are buying a newborn stash this time too (I'm so excited lol) I calculated it and it was the same price to buy a nb stash as it was to buy disposables for us, plus we hope to have more children in the future so we'll reuse them = even more savings. We also exclusively breastfeed till at least 6months so it's super easy.
When we use disposables it's usually Seventh Generation, sometimes Bamboo Nature or Andy Pandy.
Wipes we use Water Wipes brand and love them.

We are a combo household. We mainly cloth diaper but also use Honest or Pampers swaddlers. Disposables for newborn phase, then we switched to all cloth unless we were traveling. This lasted until the last few months when she started leaking every night despite how much we stuffed the diaper. We have been doing an Honest diaper at night and cloth during the day. Switched to disposable while DH was away and we haven't switched back to cloth yet.
Honestly I love cloth- she never had a blowout and we can adjust the absorbency as needed. DD has had only one or two diaper rashes in her life. And they are so cute- both the prints available and the fluff butt!! Laundry wasn't a huge issue for us, it was just a couple extra loads a week and it's easy if they are breast fed only as they don't need to be sprayed off before going in the washer. We will definitely do cloth with this baby.
As for wipes, we do Pampers for daycare and Honest wipes for home. The pampers are slimy, I agree, but they are cheaper for daycare and don't give DD any rash or anything.

Half CD question, half not.
Okay, so since baby's first poops are not super CD friendly I was planning on using disposables for the first few days. I do have some newborn CDs for when that switch happens.
My question is - how many disposables should I get? Keep in mind we will also be at the hospital for a few days (I think 2 for vaginal but who knows) so I'll be using their diapers during that time.

cythe, stuff that the hospital provides to you during your stay is yours (unless they specifically say you can't take it - I know mine said we couldn't take their receiving blankets). So you can snatch some newborn disposables as they refill them for you in your room, lol. Bring an extra empty bag for all the stuff you'll come home with. I'd still have a small pack of diapers at home though in case you can't get enough from the hospital.

Sorry that's not super helpful re: number of diapers, but basically I wouldn't worry about stockpiling too many.
