How are everyone's gardens?
Who had the million tomato plants and how's that going?

I have one raised bed that is practically empty because I harvested all the onions and potatoes and most of the carrots, and I really need to plant something else there, maybe more herbs? I bought some seed packets of peas and green beans, but wondering if it's too late. First frost varies so much here, could be October or could be November.
Kale is still going strong, I had to thin back the edges of the patch because it was moving in on my tomatoes and peppers. Tomatoes are in full swing, I planted three varieties, and the two heirlooms, Black Russian and Carolina Gold, are both full of tomatoes. Luckily they're ripening slowly and not all at once. My cucumber vine finally died a couple of weeks ago, and the little cherry tomato is chugging away, although pretty scrawny. I call it Nugget's tomato plant because she just picks off the little tomatoes as they turn orange and eats them while standing in the garden. Pumpkin/Gourd vines are looking good, too, they're starting to sprawl out across the lawn and are flowering, I can see a few tiny pumpkins starting already. Hopefully we're on track for some to be big enough by October.

The only things I ever got to harvest were a small amount of tiny potatoes, carrots, and onions. The goats and chickens ate and dug up everything else - squash beetles got my squash and pumpkins before I ever got anything from them. Hopefully next year I can get the garden area fences to protect it from the other animals.

We started out with 3 zucchini plants for R. About 6 more volunteered in last year's garden space, so MIL transplanted them into the small space for this year. We have approximately 1 million zucchini. Also the worlds largest tomato plant that fell over because nothing will hold it up - but it's still producing so whatever.
The cucumbers were supposed to be just regular cucumbers. Instead, they are super spiny and are long, skinny, and curved. So strange. But they taste fine. We have 6 corn plants with 1 ear each that should be ready this week, as well as some carrots and basil.
R is having a blast picking his veggies and watering his garden. So that's awesome.

We had a million, but he only ended up transferring about 20. We've got a lot, but all the paste tomatoes got blossom rot so we won't be canning any. We've got about 12 different varieties of heirlooms, and they are quite tasty for snacking. We've also been harvesting zucchini, squash, potatoes, cucumbers. We have made an insane amount of pickles. Also delicious. ETA: a picture of our current selection

We're getting lots of golden zucchini, cucumbers, and tomatoes. A stripey tomato of some sort, and sungold cherry tomatoes. Ground cherries and jalapeños too. Beans are all producing, but the kids eat those from the vine and none make it in. Blackberries are in full force.
I have extra tomatoes that I threw in the ground and never staked and I'm just letting them fruit on the ground. Lol. It's fine.
I'm excited to get everything done and covered with black plastic for the winter. Lol. #readyforfall #readyforwinter

Oh yeah. I have two groundhogs and one (?) rabbit that are nibbling things. But it doesn't seem too bad. They've damaged a couple butternut squash but some seem fine so I'm not too bothered.
I'm gonna try to trap the groundhogs.
They live on the hill with my apple and pear trees, and eat all the drops.
Oh yeah. One of our apple trees was unexpectedly ripe in August, so it's almost done. That was yummy.

We've given up on ours for this year. We got tomato worms that destroyed our plants, the cucumbers wound up taking over and I kept forgetting to water, so they were unbelievably bitter. I think we might get some eggplant, but ive ignored those, too. My dad tried to grow okra, but waited 2 months too late to start them, so we have 10 teeny plants.
At least we're good to have tons of muscadines? Edit: going, not good.

ovenrack I think Nugget's cherry tomato plant is sungold, they're really tasty! Forgot that we got two poblanos off our plant back in early July and I thought it was done, and suddenly in the past two weeks the plant has grown a bunch and is flowering again. So I guess the early ones were a fluke and we might get more peppers after all. critter015, Squash borers got my zucchini, too. I read that if you catch it early enough where the vines start having that chewed up waste, you can slit up the stem and find the grubs and pull them out. Then just bury that part of the vine and it will heal. Going to try that next year with zucchini, and I'm keeping a close eye on my pumpkins just in case.

We had 1 cherry tomatoe plant. R picked a million green, not even close to ripe tomatoes and then a few days later it died - probably because I forgot to water it but then I found 2 huge slugs near by. I don't think we'll be having a real garden any time soon.
