Thanks again ladies. I'm in a much better place mentally than I was Wednesday night. I'm trying not to wallow and focus on the fact that I can eat steak and cheese to my hearts content.
I hope no one else gets this diagnosis, but if you do tag me and we can commiserate and think of snack ideas.

Dang it! i had to make an account just to respond to this!
GD isn't that bad! i had really bad GD last pregnancy and have been monitored since i was 4 weeks pregnant this time.
Here are the upsides: You get more monitoring= more ultrasounds, more hearing the babys heart beat. Yay! expect at 32 weeks you will go to the dr at least twice a week for some form of monitoring as part of this, there is a chance you will get induced so yay for certain due date!
Eating right during pregnancy! eating right now will mean that youre providing baby with good nutrients and not just calories.
The best part: Cookies, cake and candy taste AMAZING once the baby is born!
I am currently in the process of a 2 week continuous blood sugar test to see when i have peaks so my dr can make recommendations about what to do different. It means writing down all the foods i eat, how many carbs they are and how much insulin i took. Then sugar readings before and after eating. I just hit the point where my sugars are unpredictable again. If youre in that portion, tips from my dr are fatty foods like pizza and chinese food will mess with your sugars more than cereal, even if you have the same amount of carbs. It has to do with how quickly the body breaks it down. From my understanding everyone is different. Something may affect you that doesnt someone else.
Ok. I said enough. I have more to share though if you wanna know anything!

Shit, I'm sorry bazi If it is any consolation, I cried when I was told the first time. I cried because I was going to have to eat all the time and on schedule. I wasn't hungry ever. Plus my BIL was diagnosed with type 1 when he was 8mo and it was not a word I wanted to have anywhere near my baby. My numbers were 1-2 points away too, which made it more of a seemingly bs diagnosis. Oh and I was diagnosed just before Thanksgiving, had my nutrition counselor meeting the Tuesday before. I was hosting and couldn't taste the sides for seasoning. So I spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years (up all night, hanging out with friends and unable to eat much at all), and Valentines Day counting carbs and poking myself. I'm actually a little shocked that I don't have it for a 4th time, because now I have to watch what I eat on my own. With my last 3 I only gained 20-25 lbs because I was eating correct portions (I'm trying this time, but it is not going as well without those extra checks). I also got to see baby every week because they check on placenta aging, fluids, baby practice breaths, baby growth, and 3 other things that escape my brain at the moment. I was able to keep in check with only diet control methods and honestly, I was able to eat some things that I would have thought would send me over. At night, I would have vanilla ice cream with some peanut butter but I would eat it out of the measuring cup, a plain glazed donut was okay for 2nd breakfast, if I had eggs, veggies, cheese and black beans or hash browns. The Special K protein shakes/drinks are also a good way to easily start the day and keep me on track if I was running behind or needed a quick snack and wasn't hungry - I find them in the pharmacy at Target or they have some other flavors in the breakfast foods. Other snack ideas: Kind bars Dried fruit and nuts Mini begal with cream cheese or peanut butter or butter and cheese Wheat or Grain bread thins and Nutella or peanut butter Carrots or cut up veggies and hummus or guacamole I ate lots of spinach salads: Chicken, buffalo sauce, ranch, red onion, blue cheese, sometimes crackers, sometimes breaded chicken Egg, red onion, red peppers, broccoli, cheddar cheese, ranch or raspberry vinaigrette Most restaurants now have nutrition menus online, which is helpful for preplanning eating out without a bunch of added stress. Burger only or no bun with some fries. Sandwich, sometimes leaving the crust of the bread or removing the majority of the bread from a sub. My other struggle was making sure I was keeping enough fat in my diet to keep keytones from my fasting numbers. They wanted me adding butter to everything or I would pick the full fat dressings to help and count as my carbs. Just as an FYI, they will check your blood sugars during labor every few hours...which basically becomes a fasting number after a few short hours. They check again after baby is born. My OB didn't note that I didn't need the diabetic diet after birth, soncheck with your hospital on the food policy after. It was rough food wise until they got ahold of her to say I could have whatever I wanted.

Oh and my OB chooses the BPP (bio physical profile) for after 32w instead of the NST (non-stress test). BPP is a weekly ultrasound and NST is over belly monitoring twice a week. So that will make a difference in if you get to see baby or not. Sometimes if NST isn't catching what they need in movements, they will do the u/s anyway.
Movements and heartrate are 2 of the 3 I couldn't remember.

Thanks clucky and rogue. My first day of testing has been fine, I'm eating pretty much my normal diet and haven't had a reading over 115 so I'm hoping I won't have to make any drastic changes. We are headed out on vacation so carb counting is probably going to be challenging but I'll definitely use those snack suggestions!

There is a tracking app that you can use for carbs on foods and at some restaurants. It was very helpful in making sure I was as close as possible when eating out at smaller places. Found it! SOs rule of thumb is if its not a protein or a fat its a carb. I dunno if that helps but I think he got frustrated at me asking every 2 seconds "is a carrot a carb?" "well what about beans!?". Meat, cheese, pickles, dark green things are all pretty safe low carb options. Try to do lower carbs in the am. Its harder to get low again during the day if you carb load initially. So i don't recommend, bagels, pancakes or waffles but as many eggs and bacon as you want is ok! Just be sure to integrate fiber in there somehow or you wont poop for daaays.
When i was first diagnosed i had to stick to 15 carbs in the am and max 30 for any other meal and that was with taking meds. You get real creative then!

Hi. Count me in with the fucking GD. I'm hoping I can get in with diabetic education soon so I can get some solid idea of what the hell to do.
I didn't have issues last pregnancy so I am pretty much clueless. Currently I am not taking the news very well but I'm sure it will get better.

It definitely sucks but a few days in and I'm getting better. I only missed my 2 hour by 3 fucking points, if I would have passed that I would have been fine because my 1st and 4th draws were both well below. I'm hoping that means I will have an easy time getting it under control. I am still waiting to hear from the diabetic educator but watching my diet closely until then. I want that appointment to hurry up so I can start checking my blood and know just how strict I have to be. This is a shitty club to be in but I sure am glad I'm not alone.

For the 3 times I failed, I only took the 3 hour twice. Those 2 times I missed the 2nd hour by maybe 20 points and the 3rd hour by 1-5 points. I was able to be completely diet controlled. My fasting number was always really good and they had me making sure I wasn't spilling protein every morning for DS3. It sucks, but all the extra ultrasounds make it worth it.

roloma my test was the same way. I've been testing my blood for over a week now and have yet to have a high reading. I'm being a little more mindful about carb portions, but otherwise I haven't really changed my diet. Right now testing just feels like a random thing on my to do list, as opposed to a big burden. Once you get the hang of it, pretty quick process. Hope your numbers look good!!
