Well, this is going to be long, so feel free to skip to the end if you want the TLDR.
So I went in to be induced on Friday and started cervidil at 3pm because I was 90% effaced but less than 1cm dilated. Well, that ended up kicking me into labor and within an hour of starting I was having painful contractions about 5-6 minutes apart. By midnight my contractions were way more painful and only about 2-3 minutes apart but when they checked me I was only 2cm. They suggested I either get some pain meds or start an epidural because I was having a lot of pain and they thought if I could relax I may progress better. I decided to just get the epidural. They also started pitocin then but I didn't feel it because of the epidural. It was heaven and I was able to sleep for a few hours. When they checked me again around 6am I was 4cm and fully effaced. So things were moving along. My doctor broke my water and said that would probably speed things up. Except when they checked again several hours later I was still at 4cm despite regular, strong contractions. Then around 3pm my epidural wore off (which I didn't even realize was a thing that could happen). The anesthesiologist came and gave me a booster dose and also increased the rate. That helped and I was numb again and slept some more. Around 8pm the baby was showing some slight distress so they checked me again and I was still only at 4cm. My doc said she would give me one more hour to see how things went and we would have to start talking about a C-section. After that hour she checked me again at I had made it to 6cm and better was doing better which she felt was enough to let me keep going a bit. We really wanted to avoid a c/s. Around 9pm my epidural started to wear off again and by 10pm I could feel everything and the contractions were super painful and close together. I asked for another booster on the epidural but the doctor wanted to check me first. When she did I was 10 cm and she said I was ready to push and I couldn't get the epidural booster because I needed to feel where to push. So, we started pushing at 10:30 pm and by then I was feeling everything. Baby was in a weird kind of sideways position so her head was pushed against my pelvic bone making it hard to push her out. She also was compressing a spinal nerve which caused excruciating non-stop pain. After 2 1/2 hours of pushing like that I honestly did not think I was going to be able to keep going, I was vomiting every time we pushed from the amount of pain I was having. My doc suggested we use the vacuum to help get her out because she was right there but due to her positioning just wasn't making it out. So we did two pushes with vacuum assistance and out she came. At 1:09 a.m Mar.iah There.ese made her entry into the world. It was a crazy, long, and painful labor but she is absolutely worth every second.
TLDR: Mar.iah There.ese was born 8/20 at 1:09 a.m. 7 lbs, 7 oz and 20 inches long.
And of course, a pic of my girl:
