Has anyone ordered a breast pump yet? I used the Medela Pump in Style with DD, but I'm hoping someone has built a better mousetrap in 3 years.

I can order mine as of tomorrow when I'm 28 weeks. I was recommended on the phone the medela freestyle. I can get it for a minimal upgrade fee that we can use our hsa card for. Apparently, it's easier to be mobile with since I also have a toddler. I was thinking of sticking to medela since I already have spare parts from my first pregnancy but if anyone LOVES another pump please let me/us know.

I had the Medela last time and have several friends that recommend the Spectra so I ordered that one this go around.

This is the one I ordered. But I just realized I need to call them. I looked at my email yesterday and they said with most insurance carriers, it should have shipped within 7-10 days (ETA: regardless of due date). I ordered it early July and have not gotten it. I had a Medela double the first time around so I will probably buy new tubing for that so I have a backup just in case. I might keep it in my car for work since I have the car charger for it.

My insurance does not cover the Medela Freestyle and I will not be exclusively pumping this time around so I don't want to pay out of pocket for a breast pump I may not use.

Oh yeah, I guess I should try my old pump to make sure it even works. LOL. I actually know where it is, surprisingly! Still in storage, along with a few other baby things we need to get out (pack and play, rock and play, infant clothes, etc). We should really do that...

I was thinking of getting the freemie but Medela is the "gold standard" I still have my old one but can get a new one for this pregnancy. I might just get another PISA and order the conversion kit to use the freemie cups- I like that you can pump with your clothes still on.

Sorry I am out of the loop. I've been reading a lot about the Spectra. I like to have 2 so I dont need to lug it back and forth to work. Maybe Spectra will be my work pump and I'll see if my old PIS is still working as my home pump. The PIS worked pretty well for me, but I hated how loud it was and I had to crank it up to 11 by the end of my pumping year.

I think I am missing something lol. I always just lifted up my shirt and put on a hands free pumping bra, but just undid the clasps on my nursing bra.

I just remember someone posted a really helpful video. It was buried in a Randoms thread though. Eta I didn't wear nursing bras so I think that was why I had to get topless.

I bought the Lansinoh one on Prime Day for cheap. Given that last time I only used a manual pump (for six months of EPing), this is a step up, haha.

I felt like I got better control from my manual pump!

I should get on that. I've had the email from my insurance company with the instructions since I was like 8 weeks. I got mine at 11w last time killing time between MFM appointments. I have a PISA from last time and really want a spectra this time, but I don't think either of my two supplier options offer it.
I should just do ANYTHING for this kid at some point.

At work i either lift my shirt up or pull it down depending on the cut of the top.

I just picked up this manual pump for basically free from the Kmart by us that's closing. Glad to hear it's awesome! I took the gamble knowing I wanted a manual to have around.

The freestyle is a POS, you wouldn't want to waste your money anyway. I was gifted it - someone registered for all the Medela pumps and was giving them away because she decided not to breastfeed. You can always get Freemes and a car adapter for the PISA to hands free pump. Spectra bottles suck for staying on, I would not trust them on a car pump. There are narrow mouth bottle adapters, but getting them & bottles on just right can take a bit of getting used to.

Just so you all know, I'm certified lactation counselor, CLC, have worked in a breastfeeding boutique that carries Spectra S1 & S2, the PISA, Freestyle, Symphony & Harmony. Ive used all but the Symphony and can help answer pump questions. My experience is that the pumps all work well and that depending on a few factors, you may be happier with one over th other.
Some things to consider... availability of parts customer service How often you will use it Where you will use it how much control you want How much you want to think about it Have you pumped before and what were your thoughts about that pump

clucky if the Medela PISA worked well for me, should I just get another one? At this point, the one I have is almost 3 years old and I was EPing. Thank you, local expert!

Insurance covers a new pump for each pregnancy, so yes. You will want a new motor. It worked well for you, stick with it. If there were aspects you didn't care for, tell me and I can let you know if the spectras would help solve those or not.

I think the biggest issue I had was figuring out what flange size I needed, but I did figure it out I had decent output and didn't mind how loud it was. Thank you!! I think I'm gonna stick with it. I know how to use it and I've been successful with it.

clucky what are some of the advantages of the Spectra? My Medela double (not the PISA) worked fine, but I did notice that the S2 was hospital grade which helped solidify my decision to get that one. And how is availability of parts? Will getting a car charger be an issue? (I could Google that, I'm sure lol).

I actually liked my Medela double a lot. But it wasn't on my list this time around.

clucky I just got my options can I pick your brain? I can get the Medela Pump in Style or Spectra S2 at no cost. Otherwise I can upgrade to the Spectra S1 or Medela freestyle with the S1 have a smaller upgrade cost then the freestyle. I will be returning to work at 3 months and plan to breastfeed/pump as long as my body allows, hopefully to 1 year. No prior experience with pumping, which would you suggest? I will say I am rather busty so I'm assuming I will need larger flanges for the spectra?

laurensc927, flange size is based on the size of your nipples. So you could need a larger or smaller size than "standard" regardless of how big your boobs are. Flange fit is best done AFTER baby is born and your nip size can change. I went through 2 different sizes when I was EPing.

I just ordered the free one from my insurance last week. It's the Ameda Double Electric. It has mixed reviews... I figured I'd give it a go before purchasing one OOP, but I don't have the highest of hopes.
