I'm sorry I wasn't around much last week. It was a very crazy, emotionally draining week. This place was pretty dead last week, so I hope to be around and contribute more, since I really don't want this board to die.
***heavy shit*** TW death
K was sent home sick Monday and so I was "working from home" Tuesday which just went as swimmingly as you'd imagine. Then Monday night I got a call that my grandfather who I mentioned had a brain tumor passed away. I took Friday off to go to the funeral. K and I drove up Thursday night to the wake. She didn't sleep the entire way and I spent most of the ride reaching into the backseat so she could hold my hand. The wake didn't get out until 8pm and then we were going to a place for dinner. When we pulled up to the restaurant the fire alarm was going off and we had to figure out an alternative plan. In the end K didn't get to bed until 11pm. She was surprisingly good for the amount of disruption to her routine.
***done with heavy shit***
On Saturday, I went on a roadtrip with my BIL, FIL, BIL's rooommates and their dads, where we basically drank our way through VT. It was a blast and I probably consumed about 11,000 calories. Sunday we just chilled at home. It was a nice day, but I wanted to just stay inside and veg. Today I'm catching up on work I missed and trying to get back into a routine.
What are you all up to today?

I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandfather. It sounds like an exhausting week - both physically and emotionally. I hope things level out for you a little this week.
Not much going on today. Both boys SLEPT IN this morning, which I thought was a miracle and then decided it was due to the eclipse. I decided I'm going to take a work break and go for a run during the eclipse - it's not total here, but still.

I'm pretty sure people in the next state heard me laughing. He's barely 15 months. I'm 5 months pregnant with twins. If that doesn't sound like a recipe for chaos I don't know what does. 😂🙄

billyhorrible that's awesome that you got to sleep in! Enjoy your run. We are about 70% here, and I'm meh about the whole thing. Found a calculator that says that a total eclipse will be in my state when I'm 94. I guess I can wait until then to see it. Then ill probably stare head on at it because ill be 94 with no fucks left. @terrain 5 months already! Are you finding out the sexes this time? I would tell your mil that she's welcome to do the training for you while you deal with two newborns. Lol

Sorry about your grandfather sheilathetankI have some more work to do once I am home. I want to get window trim done and working on a trunk that was my grandad's from the war. I thought it would be a nice tribute to him since he is gone and I can repurpose it 😊 I am trying to go to bed early the last few days. It is helping to get a bit more sleep- just so hard to get things done if you put yourself to bed at 9!!

It will only be about 85% here, so a lot of people are traveling from here. I think I will be more excited for the next one, when my kids will be older, so I can do something with them for it. I will go out for the time of most coverage, but watching the live broadcast is kind of fun because I am a nerd

I'm here. Same shit, different day at work, but that's why I'm happy to hide in my little corner and get my stuff done. We're moving into a shiny new cafeteria soon, so I won't have that corner for much longer since my new area will be more or less in the middle of everything.

So we just went outside to check out the eclipse. Didn't have glasses so we tried it through selfie mode on the phone. Barely saw anything. The sun was a little wonky shape but that was it. Womp, womp. Glad I didn't spend money on glasses.

My coworker who is one of the engineers here fashioned something using 4 different types of light reducing safety glasses. It was a lot more impressive through that. More of a "huh, cool" than an "omfg! that it so awesome!"

One of my coworkers handed me a pair of eclipse glasses and told me to check it out. It was cool, but I'd probably be more excited if it had been a total eclipse here.

I'm so sorry for your loss, sheilathetank. DS and I are on vacation, H is working today and tomorrow and then we're headed up north. Today was pretty mellow, we went to my parents' house to use their pool, I saw a little (80%-ish) of the eclipse while he napped, and then cooked an amazing dinner. Tomorrow will be children's museum with MIL and our niece - should be fun!

Sorry for your loss, sheilathetankHi. I haven't been here in awhile. Sorry for that. I called my gram today and she keeps asking me if we've thought about more kids and how we shouldn't wait too long for another. Then she told me she wishes she never had as many kids as she did (she had 7).

He pretty much turns his cup into a weapon banging it around because he wants more milk (mo!!!!!) but then when I try to take the cup he screams "noooo" 🙈 H said I should just fill a new cup with milk. Um that doesn't really teach him anything (not that this is anyway I guess) and who wants MORE dishes to wash.

sheilathetank I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you guys went through quite a bit last week. Hugs. As for me - I was wondering where everyone went and thought, "maybe the eclipse is such a big deal that it's distracting everyone over in the states???" It's seemed more quiet in general on other boards too. Maybe back to school stuff is keeping people busy as well? Things in the taitai household are same old, same old. DS started the regular fall 2017 school term at his nursery school this week. He is an old pro by now and is doing drop offs without crying (per DH). Since I am on modified bedrest, I am also helping with school pick-up now, and it is so much fun to see DS come out all smiles with his teacher when he sees me. I really missed doing pick up while I was on strict bedrest for all those months.

katespade, woof! That's just all kinds of awkward. Well the worst part about it is a lot of my mom's mental health issues are steeped in dealing with feeling abandoned and unloved by my gram. She's never been able to move past what she experienced as a child, so I just hope my gram never repeats that around my mom. DD is starting to be sassy about stuff- she claps her hands or shakes them at me when she is mad about something, generally me telling her she can't have my phone.

Taitai, one of my favorite parts of the day is pick up. K just lights up when she sees me. Well for a minute at least, until she realizes that means she has to go home and then it's a fight to get into the car while screaming "BINKIE" at the top of her lungs. katespade, that kind of toxic shit is why I separated myself from a lot of my family. I don't need your guilt or judgement in my life. I hope it doesn't bleed over into your life.

sheilathetank I am so sorry for your loss I am back-ish, hopefully, maybe, I've just really not been feeling well and feel like I have no time for anything. This week I asked another mom I know who does some nannying/babysitting to help me out, for a few hours yesterday and again tomorrow. I had really been resisting it but with LO only taking 1 nap and how awful I feel it's been impossible to get any work done. It was great having her here yesterday. I just need to get over it... needing a few hours of help when I work (70% time) and have a toddler does not make me weak or a bad mom!!!
