We are only in for a partial eclipse. M is planning on taking the kids to the museum for the afternoon so we don't have to worry about them looking at the sun.
After work M and I are going to my mom's (who is OOT). I need to cut the grass for her and M and I need a date. Her birthday is Thursday and I feel awful that I have nothing planned. It's tough now that both kids birthdays are also in the same 4 week time frame.
Oh and just water for me. I don't coffee and I've been soda free for 2 weeks.

I've got so.much. to do today and this week in general and I'm drinking strong black coffee to try to help me through it.
We have two swim lessons this morning, I need to get my emissions and safety inspections done on my car, the (partial) eclipse is happening at 2:40 (we don't have safety glasses), SIL is watching the girls tonight while I teach class and S goes to Kindergarten Orientation.
We also have preschool home visit tomorrow, kindergarten open house, more swim lessons, preschool open house, and birthday gifts for my niece to buy. And R starts kindergarten this Thursday! Oy! Coffee please

Folger's as per usual. We woke up to realize we were out of coffee Saturday morning 😱, so we really stocked up.
We will have a partial eclipse here, but I don't have the safety glasses or anything. TBH, I haven't been that interested in the eclipse but MH is. He is planning on meeting up with me at lunch time to "watch" it together (without looking at the sun I guess).

Starbucks soy latte with honey because I was out of vanilla soy at home.
We'll have about a 75% eclipse here. I had J a cereal box pinhole eclipse viewer and told him to go outside with a colander to see the shadows turn to crescents.
I'm going to run to the dollar store at lunch and attempt to make an eclipse viewer with a pair of reading glasses and some cardboard. I'll let you know how it goes. Just going to step out of my office in the afternoon for a little bit to see it.

I have tea, but I'll be heading for the sodas soon.
We're at 97% totality here. We considered driving up to totality (2 hours) before we thought it through. We're staying put and h took today off work. I'll head out to see it with him and take a long second lunch.

Drinking my usual homemade macchiato. Thinking about whipping up a second one. We're supposed to have about 89% eclipse here today. A friend gave me some glasses, so I suppose I'll wander out and take a look since I'm WFH today. At work they're having a viewing "party" with ice cream. Science nerds. I should probably set an alarm because I know I'll forget otherwise.

I'm on my way to the hospital to see my mom before her surgery. Hopefully there's a Starbucks in my future.

Blackberry sage tea here. I'm setting up my classroom, but I'm going to get the kids early from day care. The elementary school is having a viewing, with safety equipment and snacks. If we don't get there early enough to get glasses at least my kids will hear safety instructions from an outside authority. I'm not sure what percentage we are but we're pretty far north so not that high.

I drank my cold brew with milk on the way to work. We are getting 93%, but we didn't start looking for glasses until they were all gone. I made a pinhole viewer, and I'm planning on stepping outside from work for a bit to check it out.

My usual...Dunkin' Donuts homebrew with milk and sugar.
I made two pinhole viewers out of cereal boxes for R and I. I'm sure she won't care and will just want to run around the yard while I try t out.

Instant mocha cappuccino at my parents'. Their clear glass mugs make me feel like I'm at a restaurant.
We are at 50% totality here and will be going to my childhood library for a Sky Party. L probably won't care and will just play with my mom in the children's area while I watch the live stream.

We went to a new park today and I had my Montreal cold brew. Now we're at the library. During the eclipse we're just going to hang inside. We're at 70% here and I don't think that the girls would be able to not look at it. We're supposed to get 2 minutes of total eclipse here in 2024 when the girls will be 7 and 9. I think that we'll get much more gung ho about it then.

Home brewed Starbucks Italian Roast with Stevia in the Raw. I'm trying to give up creamer and wean myself to plain black. I'm eating a fresh baked zuchinni muffin with it and a cranberry scone. The equivalent of a diet pepsi with a big mac and fries, basically.
MH took today and tomorrow off, to get some around the house projects done. We'll casually check out the eclipse when it happens. We don't have glasses or anything, so won't look up.

I haven't told my kids, so I really can't imagine they'd naturally attempt to stare at the sun without any invitation to do so. Even with an explanation, I don't think it will be so comfortable to stare at it that they'll do it. I don't even think that either of them would get it if I tried. "The sun will be partially shaded! If you look, you can see that it is part covered by a dark shape - that's the moon!" Maybe H is dumber than other preschoolers, but I don't buy it. I think people are going a little nuts about this. Yes, be careful. But babies and young kids who don't know anything and animals don't have any reason to attempt to stare at the sun. People keep telling me to bring my chickens inside.

+1 planning ahead for 2024. My kids will be 6, 8, and 10. Much more fun then. And, like, maybe more interested in/aware of/capable of comprehending celestial objects.

I have this Starbucks mug that is not microwave safe. WTF. It is very pretty but basically useless, because who doesn't ever have to re-heat their coffee? It's not one of those serious travel mugs that keeps your drink hot for 6 hours.

Yea I'm with ovenrack. Kids and pets don't normally just look at the sun so why are people thinking they will today- if they know nothing of what's happening. Even if it was suddenly night M would be like "who turned off the lights?" So....

It is so cloudy here today that I think all of the eclipse fanatics are going to be disappointed.

I'm still rocking the half-caff k-cups. Since I got the baby out, I suppose I could switch back to full caff, but as long as I'm used to the half-caff, I'll stick with it until I use up the box. I'm so glad the baby came last week, so we could get used to things while there was nothing on the schedule. Today, N goes back to preschool, tomorrow is D's kinder orientation, and Wednesday, he starts kinder.
Now I'm off to down 32oz of water in my giant hospital take home mug, feed the baby, then drink moar coffee!

Oh, and the eclispe? We live in Karl's domain, the fog of San Francisco. So, no eclipse viewing for us. There's a slight chance the fog will burn up by the afternoon, but the eclipse is done here by 11:30. Oh well. I'm not going anywhere to try to see it.

Water only so far. My child is so f'ing grumpy today and it's rubbing off on me. I don't even want to be around him. He just peed in his car seat on our way home so now I have to wash the cover and be housebound or walk until it dries. Don't currr about the eclipse. Just want to nap.

Today is the 2nd day of school. Drop offs went fantastic and then E and I went to the grocery store (finally!) and got creamer so I could drink my coffee. She stole my list and pen towards the end and got pen marks all over her new white shirt. I plan to glance at the eclipse, I think it is supposed to be 88% or something here. O and I might make the cereal box thing after we put E on her nap, or we may just watch the live stream. It will be strange to be solo with him for a few hours.

Overcast here, so no really eclipse happening.
I had a half cup of coffee this morning because we were dumb and stayed up too late last night and I did not want to get up this morning.
Second week of kindergarten is starting, we will see how it continues to go.

I tried to explain it to R and all she got from it was that "mommy and RoRo go outside when the babies nap". Pretty sure she's just going to run around like any other day while I try to catch a glimpse with our cereal box viewer.

Yea the live feeds on line make it look pitch black like night. But...its not right? Thats some filter so they can aim right at the sun I assume.

It did not get even close to that dark here, and we were at 90% coverage. It was super cloudy but we saw a little bit through holes in the clouds.
