Background: my very best friend from college is having her first baby, a boy; the shower is in September. Budget, 100ish.
For C's sprinkle, she gave me one of those ultra-plush Little Giraffe blankets. It's beautiful and we've enjoyed it, and I would never buy myself something like that. So part of me thinks I should return the favor and do something along those lines.
BUT as a mom myself, I wonder if it would be better/more practical to do some sort of gift basket with an assortment of items she'll *need* (things from her registry like bathing items, and various meds, nose frieda, etc. that she might not be aware of?)
Not sure if this is necessary info, but they're fairly affluent and run with a similar crowd. So I wonder if she'll be getting plenty of luxury-type items and maybe will need more practical things?
Thoughts?
I don't know why I'm paralyzed with indecision by this. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

Maybe do both? One luxury item and a assortment of must haves? All in a beautiful basket. Are you going to the shower or sending a gift?

I say go with the practical gift basket. First time moms think they need things they end up never using (or at least I did), so getting necessary things from a btdt mom would be the best gift from my perspective.

I'd do a combo. Maybe a basket with some necessary stuff, a favorite book, and then some she won't want to buy herself. Some lux stuff I returned tbh, but I did appreciate and enjoy some as well..

I agree with others that both would be nice. Maybe a practical gift basket with Freshly Picked moccasins or something thrown in?

The Virgo in me screams practical (and that is usually where I go), but if this is your very BFF for life, I'd go ahead w a special/memorable luxury item. Something she can look back on in years and say "aw, my very best friend Flamingo got that for my baby boy."

I'm mobile so I don't see the poll, but I agree with practical items and a lux item thrown in. Also, I had a few people add gift cards to restaurants and even a spa one in with baby gifts and I really appreciated that.

I'd do both. As most of you know by now I'm a little (well okay a lot) sentimental. I love that I've got some beautiful items that will be used hopefully trough the next generation as well that where gifted from people that are very close. I'd say make a basket and combine need with want, I also love the use of putting a favourite picture book in there.

I was going to say almost exactly this. I think it will be appreciated when her baby is screaming in the middle of the night because he can't breathe and she doesn't have to run out to get the Nose Frida!

I'd go practical, but with all favorite items, and like others said, a favorite book or 2. I always like giving the things I loved the nmist with a note saying this was a favorite because... I feel it makes the practical gift more personal

flamingo you have such amazing taste, I would hate to see it go to waste. Otherwise I would say practical. Use your talents for this one.
