Gtky: what's your day like now with a newborn?

Good idea yoshijo! Things in the amused house is hectic at the moment. My mom has been a huge help with cooking and cleaning, but she leaves tomorrow. Then my FIL comes in tomorrow evening. Back to back house guests. 😣 Breastfeeding is a work in progress. But I think we are doing well. It's hard to know how much he's actually consuming. Trying to keep a close eye on his output. Well it took me 15 mins to type this, if that gives you an idea of what my day consists of. 😆

Alexa is 4 weeks old and is 7lb 3oz. We went to the pedi today for reflux issues. We'll try zantac, hope it helps! I was the crazy mom who made the dr watch 2 videos of A after eating so she could hear how she grunts, breathes fast, and clears her throat.
Overall she's still happy and wakes up once in the middle of the night and then again around 5 or 6.
Our day starts at 5 or 6, she's fussy usually so she may or may not let me nap after (usually not). We go for a walk, I do dishes, laundry and watch netflix and attempt to straighten up. My sis is off for the summer so I see her sometimes or go visit my dad. H comes home around 2 or 3 and I can sometimes nap then. H jumps in and feeds, changes, comforts her for a lot of the night so I get a break.
Tldr our day: sleep, eat, beg her to burp, eat, burp, I try to nap, she sleeps but wakes up bc she pooped and is sitting in it, change her, sleep, pump, take a walk, attempt to wash bottles, she cries, pump, eat, sleep, Netflix

Hudson is 1 week and 1 day old! He is doing good! He still has jaundice, but not high enough for the light treatment. It seems today it's finally starting to recede.
He is nursing and pooping like a champ (8 or poops/pees a day). He is breastfeeding so much better than my first. I totally forgot how much newborns love to sleep. Lol
He had an appointment this past Monday and had gained back all the weight he lost in the hospital. He is doing good otherwise!
We have another appointment this Monday and hopefully he has gained even more weight and the jaundice is finally cleared.
Sleeping has been pretty good at night, but I am still waking him (or he wakes) every 2 hours or so to feed and change.

He had horrible reflux. Nothing we did helped - slept on angle, burped, changed my eating habits. We were finally given Zantac for him and once it built up in his body it was like night and day. I mean there was reflux from time to time, but not nearly as bad as it was.

LOs are 3 days old. We're still in the hospital and will be discharged tomorrow. Breastfeeding twins has been my whole day; I've also been giving them pumped milk to supplement to make sure they're not losing too much weight.
Highs: They had a photoshoot today which was so much fun! They also made great strides with latching today. DS1 also came by the hospital for a while to visit.
Lows: My BP started creeping up again so I've got some meds to help. I'm really exhausted and worried about how we'll manage.
Gtky: Day consists of breastfeeding 24/7

We got home from the hospital on Monday afternoon and it was a rough transition home but it's slowly getting better. The pain from the c section is pretty bad at times, especially since I'm being stubborn and not taking my pain meds. I just hate the way I feel when I take them, but I guess it's better than being in pain.
My husband and MIL have been my saviors. I physically can't do much, so they've been handling all the household duties and I'm basically in bed all day. I feed the baby, pump, eat, bathroom breaks, and shower. Last time, I tried to do more than I should have and my incision opened up and then got infected, which was absolutely terrible to go through. I'm being overly cautious this time around because I don't want to go through that again. So, I feel incredibly useless at times and guilty for having everyone around me do so much while I do so little. I've had a few breakdowns, and while I don't think it's PPD, I'm keeping an eye on it. There's been times I'm so overwhelmed with things, I just feel like we made a huge mistake when we decided to have another one. But, then I look at him and I'm glad he's here.
Breastfeeding is probably the center of my frustration at the moment. He's still not doing that great and we've been told that it's basically a waiting game for now. The combination of him being early and having a tongue tie make it hard for him to successfully latch. He doesn't have the strength or energy to latch and stay latched. We got his tongue tie corrected on Wednesday afternoon and he's been such a trouper getting through that. Barely cried and didn't fuss much afterwards. Although it was corrected, he still needs time to gain strength in his jaw and tongue. We met with a lactation consultant today and she wants us to see a craniosacral therapist. From my understanding, they will do exercises to strengthen his facial muscles. She also wants us to do suck training before every feed. So, for now, I will continue attempting to get him latched while using the SNS system and if after 5-10 minutes of unsuccessful latching, we will move to finger feeding with the SNS system. I really hoped I wouldn't have to be pumping, but that's what has to be done for now. At least it's helping build up my supply and we can monitor exactly how much he's eating.
Gtky: what's your day like now with a newborn? Kinda answered this above already. Basically feeding the baby, pumping, and trying to heal as fast as possible by trying to do as little as possible all day.

Hey! Benji and Evie are both close to coming home after 80 days in the NICU.
Evie was initially looking at 8/16 as her discharge date but had bloodwork on Monday that showed her neutrophil levels were low. She is showing no signs of infection but they want to keep monitoring her. It literally could be any day for her to come home depending on when they recheck her labs.
Benji decided he could not be outdone by sister and went from two bottles per day on Saturday to all 8 on Tuesday. We are looking at 3 to 5 days for him since he just needs to continue completing his bottles while gaining weight.
GTKY - pump, work, pump, hospital, pump, try to get stuff done, pump, nap, pump, maybe bed, rinse and repeat.

Wow so many more babies since I last checked in!
DS is almost 3 weeks, it's crazy! We are still trying to figure out night and day but it's getting better. His big sister also started sleeping through the night which has helped the last few days.
I had to go to campus for meetings today and brought him with. I almost forgot I had him he was so quiet. His good behavior led to invites to more work meetings which will be a big help as long as he can handle it.
Our days are mostly trying to get the two kids on similar sleep schedules, feeding both, trying to write, and not getting much done. But they are fun so we are good. In two weeks when we go back to work it will be hard because both of us will have full days home with two kids. Neither of us has done it yet!

yellowcat Yay for who behaved baby! Good luck with the writing, and I hope you get a good schedule into place soon for you both with work.
