So my DD was born in late Spring/early summer and we have all her clothes saved. We live in Virginia so we get all seasons here and I'm not sure how to dress a tiny newborn in the winter! We won't be spending a ton of time outside but we will be in and out of the car a lot. This feels like a really dumb question but I'm not sure what to buy if anything!

Well, how fortunate for me that I also live in Virginia and have similar questions!
In somewhat helpful answer-land, I have a lighter jacket for NB stage and plan on getting a heavier one for 0-3 months as needed.

DD was born in Feb when we lived in ND. All I did was put her in long sleeves/pants with a blanket over her (basically swaddled her once she was buckled in). I also had a car seat cover to keep the wind off of her. Make sure any jackets aren't thick and nothing comes between the baby and the back of the car seat.
Edit: spelling is hard

I live in the great white north so I imagine your winters are a bit milder. In the Fall when baby is a newborn I will dress the baby in long sleeves and probably a fleece sweater with a blanket. Then when it gets colder I'll use all of the above plus a car seat cover. Then when it's frozen tundra time I will do all of the above plus warm up the car with heat before baby goes in.
ETA Forgot to add baby will have a hat and maybe some fleece bootie things.

We live in Colorado and DS was a fall baby so newborn and infant during the winter. He wore long sleeved onesies and pants every day. When we went out of the house, I put a light jacket on him, hat and Zutano booties (seriously amazing and ten times better than socks) then layered blankets and a car seat cover. Honestly we couldn't get outside much because of how cold it was. When we could get out in the stroller or something we bundled him up in this snowsuit Carters Infant Boys & Girls Plush Ivory Faux Shearling Coverall Snowsuit Pram www.amazon.com/dp/B00TT6ZXW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_3b3IzbRPFPRHC And the bundleme JJ Cole Jj Cole Original Bundleme, Infant Graphite www.amazon.com/dp/B003KN27C8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-c3Izb31YMPWX

I'm in Ohio. Long sleeve onesie/shirt+pants+booties/socks when home. Tuck a blanket around them once in the carseat when going out and add a hat+mittens.
