Thanks for sharing. I will have to go back and read all of it, as I just skimmed through it now. LOL at those old ads that were in the middle! Um, did anyone think "obesity soap" would work? And I still remember watching that episode of Oprah, with my mom, when she pulled out that wagon of fat.

Very interesting read. It kind of made me sad.
This line: "Weight isn’t neutral. A woman’s body isn’t neutral. A woman’s body is everyone’s business but her own. Even in our attempts to free one another, we were still trying to tell one another what to want and what to do."
I'll be thinking about this all afternoon.

Go into a lifting forum and mention weight loss and you will get bombarded with why that is horrible, just lift and your weight is what it is, etc etc. It all has to be so all or nothing and it's maddening.

It made me sad too, I I also found the nextt paragraph very affirming. That our bodies deserve the consideration and the pursuit of health. "I don’t know if diets can work in the short term or the long term. For the first time, I began to think that this was something worth being made crazy over. Our bodies deserve our thoughts and our kindness, our acceptance and our striving. Our bodies are what carry our thoughts and our kindness and our acceptance and striving." It made me feel like all the energy I put into trying to find the best solution for my body isn't stupid or pointless, it's an effort to know better and do better and that your body is deserving of that effort. Taffy is much more eloquent than me.

This article got me very up in my feelings. Especially the last paragraph and the stuff around drinking Dr Pepper like it's just a drink.
Damn this shit is hard.
