Broadkill Beach, DE/East Coast beach recs

My H told me last week that he wants to take our kids on a beach vacation next year. TWIST MY ARM. I have been doing some research about places that would fit our budget and distance requirements and I stumbled across Broadkill Beach, DE and I was wondering if anyone out here had any experience there? It is just north of Rehoboth Beach but it looks quieter and has ocean front house rentals which we like to do.
Our favorite travel spot is Topsail Island, NC but with 2 little monsters,it is just too far for us at this point for a road trips (13 hours with light traffic and minimal stops). We love it for how family friendly and quiet it is, even in peak season. This place seems to have a similar vibe but is about half the distance. It also is close enough to Rehoboth and Lewes beaches that there are boardwalks and things to do within a short drive. The only negative I am seeing is that there are a lot of bugs in the summer and I am wondering if any one has any first hand experience.
I am also open to any other recommendations of quiet beaches that they love in the DE/MD/NoVA area.
