My oldest friend's son is turning 3 on Saturday. Or his party is then- whatever. He has anything he needs or wants and when I asked her she said "a dumpster for all the crap filling my house." But she always gets great things for my kids and is really generous overall with other stuff so I'd like to get him something that's not just a burner gift. She said he mostly plays with cars and trucks but has a million. He also likes swimming (they have a pool). And riding his balance bike. Last year we got him a baby doll and stroller and apparently he named the doll after M and sleeps with it and his dad likes to pretend to be annoyed by it.
Ideas? Do boys ever play with sticker books if I can find some good car themed ones? Or great preschool level car books beyond the well known ones? I'm thinking like $20-50 range. Amazon prime or easy to get at like target.

There's a big book of Cars (movie) stories with great pictures. I can't remember the title, but it has about 10 different stories in it and my son loves it.

R loves sticker books. Other suggestions: This book plus any others in the series The brand janod has some cool wooden models appropriate for this age too. We have the magnetic airplane and a bulldozer that uses big wooden screws. Otherwise a gift certificate to a museum or something.

Yes to sticker books.
Puzzles are huge in our house, along with lego duplos- especially the construction vehicles and trains.

H loves stickers. There's this dumb book he has which is a sort of story (stretch of the word) followed by a page of stickers. He loves picking one out each time we read it.
Other obsessions: cranes, and other construction vehicles...

^Oh yeah. Lego duplos have some sets that are great - H got a fire truck one for his 3rd birthday, and he still loves it.

Yea these are always good. At least in our house. BM just found one of those inflatable punching guys you knock down and he pops up on amazon. We may do that just to be those annoying people who give gifts like that.

Am I the only one who dislikes stickers? I avoid them at all costs.
Coloring books are a big hit here.

Would something like tickets to Diggerland be an option? I know it's not close to you, but are there similar places to it? Awesome gift, but no crap in the house.

Tickets/GC to an experience. Like a museum or the movies? Maybe a live show if they have a predictable enough schedule to buy something like that in advance? You could offer to babysit their other kids if they have any so birthday boy could get one on one time.

And we've been talking about trading child free nights for ...well 3 years. He stayed with us when they went away for a wedding once, but otherwise we've failed big time. Unless you know of any hidden gems or car based live shows coming around?

We have one family friend who always gives the ridiculous toys that no parent would ever buy, like a PowerWheels quad bike, a remote-controlled crane, a trampoline....she takes great pleasure in annoying us, LOL. So there's always that option.

Seriously, just kidding, but in a few years Nerf guns will definitely be a slam dunk. ETA: stringy

J loves his Stomp Rocket too. Although I need to duct tape it together permanently because it keeps coming apart and it causes me to frequently cuss.

Also, books. Because they don't take up a lot of room and you can't hate on books for kids.

I could do the stomp rocket - he may not have seen ours. Their yard isn't big and is mostly pool, though. Remote control crane sounds fun.
I love and appreciate books - just don't ever know what they have or like.
