So I'm not pregnant but I am doing IVF in a couple months and I'm doing a lot of visualization/positive thinking about it being a success because it seems to cut down on my anxiety. Part of that is that I'm finally letting myself actually think about baby names. I recently met a little girl named Margot and sort of fell in love with the name - it's classic and elegant, I like the meaning ("pearl"), and it's trending upward but not so popular that she'd be in a sea of other Margots. I really like the traditional spelling with the "t" but I've read in a few forums that people constantly mispronounce the name as "Mar-gott."
So basically I wanted to get any of your thoughts on the name and the spelling, or if any of you have kids whose names are frequently mispronounced, how have you dealt with that?
Thanks!

Best of luck with IVF! I'll keep my fx for you.
As for names, I would think that Margot is generally recognizable now, with Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) being fairly well-known. I have a friend who spells it the French way (they are French so this makes perfect sense), which is Margaux, but I can imagine that also being mispronounced.

I love Margot for all the reasons you described. I would never think it was pronounced Mar-gott, but one night I heard my H read a Sophie the Giraffe book with a character Margot and he pronounced it that way. I was shocked. I corrected him and he never did it again.
My DD's name has a traditional pronunciation (what we use) and an alternative pronunciation. Most people ask how we say it and then I make sure to say it a couple times so they remember. If someone assumes the alternative way, I simply correct them. It hasn't been too annoying. And I really think it would happen much less with Margot.

I love Margot, T and all! Of course people will say the T if they've never encountered it before but a quick correction (and reminder of the words ballet and peridot) and it's all good!
Not to be a huuuuuuge stickler, but Margaret means pearl. Margot is a diminutive of Margaret so it itself doesn't exactly mean pearl.
I also used to love the Margaux spelling until I learned that it came from the name of a winery. Margot is the traditional French version.

I love Margot, and would use that spelling as well if I used it.

I don't care for the name particularly, but if you were to use it Margot is definitely the right way to spell it.

Peridot is pronounced in some places outside the US with the final T. It sounds wrong to me, but it is the preferred pronunciation in some places. Nitpicking aside, I prefer Margaret to Margot, but if you use Margot, I definitely prefer this spelling.

Yes, I had the Margaret discussion with DH and that name was shot down, but he didn't hate Margot. And very true joy, I actually think "little pearl" to myself since it's a diminutive.

My niece is Margot. Her name has been great and not a pronunciation problem much.

Love love love Margot.
I think even the simplest names get mispronounced sometimes. Use the name you love and don't worry about how other people will say it.

I love Margot.
People who have never seen it before might mispronounce it initially but I believe with this name most people will only have to be corrected once.

Love Margot! That is the spelling and pronunciation I'm familiar with too. Can't say I've ever heard someone pronounce the T.
Good luck with your IVF!!

Love love love Margot. I think even the simplest names get mispronounced sometimes. Use the name you love and don't worry about how other people will say it. Seriously. True. My son's name is Eli and I'm shocked that every frigen time we go to the pediatrician they call out "Ellie".

I can see their faces every time they call it out, they think it's a girl and then they see his middle name and go "oooh- Eli" LOL

I had a friend Margaux and she frequently had people spell her name Margot, so I don't think you'll have too many issues with that. But I didn't think my kid would have spelling issues and it happens all the time (we get Juliette instead of the Juliet we chose).
I love the name, though.
