Hey everybody! I just had my anatomy scan yesterday and the tech said everything looked "normal". However, I've been afraid of cervix length this whole pregnancy because honestly, I'm just a worrier and overly cautious. So I paid attention when she checked my cervix and she wrote down 2.75 cm. I knew she wouldn't tell me so I didn't even ask if that was good but I had already googled that average is 3.5 cm. After the scan, I googled "cervix 2.75 at 20 weeks" and man was that a mistake! There are forum after forum post with women stating they went on strict bedrest at 20 weeks because of a cervix measuring under 3 cm.
So I pledged to stay away from google, called my doctor this morning and she isn't there today but her nurse stated that the results for cervical length were marked as normal. She promised my doctor would call me tomorrow but now I'm terrified she'll tell me it's fine. I work a pretty physically demanding job (I'm a daycare teacher with 16 two year olds). Why would some doctors demand strict bedrest and others consider it normal? I'm super freaked out about it and I'm not sure what to do. I want to trust my doctor but if something happened to this baby that could've been prevented, I don't know what I'd do. Am I being crazy?

Not crazy at all. I'd tell the doctor what the technician marked down and what you read on the Internet, then ask him what he thinks of a cervical length of 2.75.
You're being a good mama by advocating for yourself and your baby.

I know nothing about cervix length. All my tech said was the my cervix looked good. I'm notorious for googling things I shouldn't. Just check with your doctor if you are concerned. If he/she isn't concerned then you know you don't need to be.

Thank you ladies! My nurse promised the doctor would call me tomorrow, I'm just freaking out as always. I'm very worried that she'll say it's fine and then it will end up not being fine. My family thinks I'm a lunatic.
(Backstory: With my third pregnancy/loss I was allergic to the progesterone so my doctor told me it would be "fine" to stop taking it. I lost the baby within a week of stopping. I don't blame my doctor and I wasn't even sure if the progesterone was helping, however the only thing I've done differently for this pregnancy was continue progesterone until 14 weeks. Moral of this story is I'm very, very overly cautious and if the doctor tells me my cervix is fine tomorrow. I don't think I'm going to be able to believe her but what can I do?)

I have no idea what is normal but my friend who went on bedrest at 20 weeks because of her cervix was literally not allowed off the table at her ultrasound when it was discovered until her doctor was consulted. If they are ok with you waiting until tomorrow, it can't be a huge concern.

I don't know what is normal and don't think they even told me with DD. But today at my AS they said mine was 4 and great. I think you are absolutely fine to worry and advocate for yourself. The dr is there to take care of you and should either put your mind at ease, or take your concerns as valid and determine a plan. I hope you hear back from him asap tomorrow. Stay off google until then!

daystardreams I'm hoping everything turned up just fine since you haven't updated? I haven't had any news. The doctor never called like they promised so I guess they aren't that concerned. I have an appointment on Monday so I've just been taking it easy for now.

UPDATE: just in case anyone was wondering, my doctor said they usually don't interfere with a short cervix unless I have symptoms of a problem. Of course one of the symptoms was bleeding so I'm back to checking toilet paper like the beginning of my pregnancy.

If I start spotting again, I have to go in immediately for a sono and a Rhogam shot. If I don't, I get the shot anyway at 28 weeks. Lucky me!

I wish I could sleep for the next three-ish months and then wake up and get prepared for baby to be here!
