My oldest isn't done until the 13th and my youngest goes until the 20th (only twice a week) when she'll have her preschool graduation. I'm so ready for summer break but these next two weeks are going to be miserable with everything from a school fair, 2nd grade class field trip, field day, 2nd grade class picnic, and dance recital all shoehorned in. It's too much all at once. Oh and of course a couple of birthday parties and a preschool graduation pool party thrown in for good measure. 🤪

We have another month here but it’s pure chaos between sports and end of the year school functions. Summer isn’t much less with constant sports after work.

College DD has been home for 2 weeks. The other kids finished school yesterday; today is MH's last day as a teacher.
We have a humdinger of a dance recital weekend. Our studio has recital in a small town that's like 45 minutes from my house. (I'm assuming since it overlaps with graduations- there's not a lot of options closer to home?) It's a lovely auditorium, but so annoying to have it that far away. DD3 is a student helper for the younger kid classes so she helps with their recitals too. She has two dress rehearsals today and 1 dress rehearsal plus 3 recitals tomorrow.
We'll be significantly less busy after this and I am really excited about that!

We have been done for a week already. Knowing how hot it is going to be in August, I wish we were still in school for another week or two at this point in the year.

We are going to a cabin in the Poconos Sunday-Wednesday. When we get back DS will only have three days of school left. Also it's going to be 40* two of the three nights we are there. Same time two years ago we were swimming in the lake.

Add me to the aging all of a sudden parents list. Three months ago my dad had a great bill of health outside of his well managed diabetes. Then he had some weird breathlessness and burning sensation so we went to the doctor and she sent him to the ER. Thankfully there were no blockages found during his angiogram, but they did state he needed valve replacement surgery. He thought he could get the through the veins surgery but because he's under 75 they said the standard is open heart be abuse its better outcomes and longer lifespan post surgery. And his cardiologist who he met last week is like you need surgery next week. So here we go open heart surgery. ::sigh::

So my school district is in a bit of disarray and financial catastrophe. We’ve had 4 superintendents in the last 5 years and someone “double counted” 17 million dollars so they had to make huge cuts this year. As part of that the head of my department, health services, has decided the district of 10,000 kids can get by with 4 nurses and a bunch of unlicensed assistant personnel. She has no medical training but health services is paired with a bunch of other groups under the same supervisor. So she laid off 14 nurses. Anyway it’s been very stressful because I love this job and absolutely did not want to go back to the ER full time. I just can’t do that kind of nursing anymore. I kept it up but just twice a month so it was manageable.
Today I accepted a job at my hospital in case management. I’m so relieved. I do think I’ll like the work and I’m so happy to not have to go back to the ER.
Besides all of that, I’m still in the process of divorcing my husband it’s been almost a year since I told him. We still live together and it has been a hard year. We should be able to come to a resolution soon and having now secured this job is an extra weight off.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to enjoy the summer of a school employee but I’ll take job security every day over summers off.

Well we survived two chilly nights and are rewarded with an 80* day today so we will get to get out on the lake this afternoon after all. The weekend rain has been nuts! We had a few truly perfect days last month and I am in no hurry for the heat, really.

In one positive update regarding my dad- in Portugal I can take up to 15 days paid leave to care for my dad after his surgery.
Hit send too soon. He met his surgeon today and had a CT scan. Doctor says the fact that he's so symptomatic is serious so surgery will either be the 18th or 25th of this month. He will be in ICU for 2 days and then regular hospital room 3-4 more days.

beaf12 - that's a whole bunch of change (some long and drawn out yes, but still) to handle at once. I hope this is the beginning of tons of good things to come.

blurnette989I know just the sound of "open heart surgery" coming out of a dr mouth is scary. But gosh the way medicine has advanced and improved experience and outcomes on heart surgery, there shouldn't be any issues. Glad you can take off time and help your dad during his recovery. You've personally helped me so much over the years how can I help you during all if this?

As far as helping, if you have any suggestions on how to slip my mom a valium, I'd be forever grateful. She hasn't been married to my father for decades and yet she has turned into the most intense version of herself, making sure he gets good care. It's good but I'm not looking forward to being in the waiting room with her while we wait for him to come out of surgery.🫣 But really, I appreciate all the kind words. We are good in general, and lucky to have lots of family around to help. Even my boys were brainstorming chores they can do for my dad when he is recovering.

Definitely a small problem to have. But a month ago, we booked a house for vacation at the beach. We’ve rented this place before so I know that the owners usually take 4 weeks. It was fully booked but then my daughter noticed that it was available the week we were looking. I assumed that the owners canceled a week since that’s what has happened the last 2 times we’ve booked this place. Well today my H got a phone call from the realtors saying “it was an error and it wasn’t available to rent”. I’m assuming that the owners have changed their mind and want to stay. It’s their house so I guess the realtors CAN’T say no, but I am pissed. It’s not like we booked it a few days ago. It was literally a month ago.
I want to call but H says that he will handle it. I’m sure he knows he will be nicer than I would be. They offered him a few other options but I don’t really want to give them our business.

Our district has a ton of state funding cuts so they are slashing “courtesy bussing” next year. Per NJ-districts only have to offer bussing if kids K-8 live over two miles from school and high school it is 2.5 miles from school.
DD2 is going into second next year. We live 1.9 miles away-Google maps says it is a 41 minute walk. We have no clue how we are going to do this next year. Drop is fine but we definitely can’t pick her up.
Sometimes I really get frustrated at the state. Like why have another barrier to make attendance harder for families. 😩😬

I am chaperoning DDs trip to Hershey Park tomorrow. There are eight 7th graders in my group. They are already split on activities that they want to do. I haven’t been to an amusement in years! My anxiety level is pretty high today.
