What do you bring for new parents when they come home from the hospital?
I need ideas for a family of three (4 year old) that just welcomed a new baby. No restrictions on food.

i feel like people tend to overlook breakfast and lunch when bringing food- so i'd probably opt for either a breakfast item (homemade muffins, or pick up fresh bagels and a tub of cream cheese, perhaps also lox if i knew they liked it), or bring sandwich fixings (loaf of bread, cold cuts, sliced cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and chips). also any kind of one-handed snack is great for nursing moms- granola bars, fruit, etc.
since it's summer i'd be kind of disinclined to cook something in the oven (casseroles, etc.) bc it would heat up my whole house. if you're already grilling, you could grill them hamburgers/hot dogs/corn and bring that over with packages of hamburger/hot dog buns.

I like to bring a mix of hot/cold (things to reheat for dinners, but also quick grabs for breakfast/lunch).
So usually two or three things from this list: Bagels Muffins Fruit Salad Trail mix Pancakes Baked oatmeal Cold cuts, chicken salad, or pimento cheese & sandwich rolls Lasagna/baked pasta chili Italian beef chicken stirfy with rice enchiladas (+ chips and salsa) chicken gyro meat and pita bread chicken pot pie shepherds pie pulled pork or chicken soup (+ yummy bread) Baked chicken with rice/potatoes and a green veggie
And since there's already a kid I usually throw in cookies or brownies.

My favorite thing someone brought us last time was chicken salad for sandwiches (pioneer woman recipe), really fresh sandwich bread, chips, cut up fresh fruit, and cookies. It was such a nice change from the casseroles, tasted really fresh, and was easy to put together for lunches for a couple of days.

When I had DD in June, people brought us chicken enchiladas, beef enchiladas, American chop suey, chicken divine, cheesy meatloaf, and Jamaican chicken curry with coconut rice. Last time I remember people brought shredded BBQ chicken and stuff to make sandwiches, baked ziti, and some Mexican cornbread dish that was pretty yummy.
I have a friend having a baby soon and was thinking of making the Taste of Home Ham and Zucchini Italiano dish with a salad and something else for them. It's easy to make and tasty.
Also, if you can, I know I would have appreciated if someone had brought a meal after DH returned to work. It was definitely helpful the first week but when I was by myself all day with 3 kids I really would have loved not having to try to cook. I probably could have frozen some of what they did bring but I was starving and ate a lot of the leftovers for lunches and stuff.

I usually do a past bake with ground beef or sausage. They can freeze or bake when ready.
Bagels with cream cheese is also a great one because they last a few days and easy to grab.
