I do think that there is a contingent of Rs/conservatives that wouldn't care given that Pete is masc appearing and speaking. My uncle is a conservative - hates Trump - and we were talking while I was visiting him last month about the election etc. We were discussing potential viable candidates for the Dems next cycle and when Pete came up, I mentioned that he could never win in this culture because of homophobia. My uncle seemed genuinely surprised by this and was like "Nah, no one cares that he's gay." I think there is a decent group of conservatives that wouldn't care but he doesn't realize that it is not the majority of voters by a long shot. I don't even think it's about the conservatives necessarily. I think there is a group of Dems/liberals who stayed home but would have come out for someone like Pete. (And I again stress this isn't me saying it should have been him, it's more of an indictment of those people) And then enough conservatives wouldn't know or care that it'd carry. You have more faith in people than me, I think. lol

Unfortunately there are also chunks of D voters who would have pause with voting for a gay man.

I mean, when I ran for local office my Republican legislator specifically set of a campaign to target me for being queer while the Dems did little to protect me. I am not ignorant to the existence of hate on both sides. But I think a cis white gay man with a liberal bent absolutely has at least a chance of winning.
I can't get behind the idea that it's harder for a cis white gay man to get elected than a Black man (and Obama won!). I'm okay on my island lol

I think that there are plenty of progressive/dem people who voted for Harris or Hillary *because* they were women. I think that there are far fewer people who would vote for Peter *because* he is gay. That alone says to me that gay men are farther ahead than women in being respected by society. I adore Pete. I would have a hard time choosing between him and Walz if they were both running.

Then Peter can be VP and set up to run after Walz

I agree Pete would have had a better turnout but I still don’t think he’d win, yet. ETA: I also think the current climate plays into it. It is so different than when Obama was elected.

There are a lot of white people who will be an ally for the LBGTQ+ community that still get uncomfortable and don’t speak up when it comes to BIPOC communities. Not to say they are are racists but they have less bias

Obama was elected because black men and women came out and voted. He wasn’t voted by just white men and women

So...more tariffs I guess. 🙄😒 The US being known for its champagne production There is that weird loophole that lets certain CA growers produce sparkling wine and use the name champagne, but I have no doubt at all that the orange Führer thinks all sparking wine is champagne.

I knew Schumer was going to flip to vote for the spending bill but I’m disappointed in Gillibrand. So NY sold out today. I’ve seen a lot of anger in comments about it and that both deserve to be primaried.

I really like Pete but what we’ve seen people applauding/wanting changed with respect to LGTBQA+ rights I don’t see him winning. They won’t trust that he won’t roll back the changes being made.

It’s the backlash of 2008. They saw a Black man in power and said never again. If you would have told me then how it would feel now when I was feeling so elated I wouldn’t have believed it. I was a naive lady thinking we were making some real progress.

Does it seem like Chuck S changed positions in just one day? Is it oddly coincidental that he also has a book coming out? I wish all Dem Senators would unite, fight, and just vote NO. Only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove Chuck Schumer from leadership and replace him with someone willing to fight bsky.app/profile/brandonfriedman.bsky.social/post/3lkcnf57z6s2mBetween him and seeing something about Gavin N having Steve Bannon on his podcast, I am sorely disappointed in male Democrats. Do you think Newsom is trying to win over Rs early because he plans to run? He might be trying to look more middle or the spectrum versus the liberal he really is.

Personally I love the shit out of Pete. Same. I would be ecstatic if he ran and won, but I have so little faith. Especially with what burning rubble of government and society will be left after the next four years.

I’ve seen a lot of anger in comments about it and that both deserve to be primaried. This definitely makes me sad and very frustrated. I've always stanned for the both of them. Less so Schumer in recent years, but I've always liked Gillibrand. And seeing the voting map from the election and how much of the state went red, more than usual, I just want to scream.
