Do we think he's planning to hold out and run for president again in 2028?* *Assuming there are elections. ETA RTMFT cnf This country won't elect a gay man president. I disagree. I think a contingent of the people who stayed home this time would vote for him. When Obama and Hilary were going for the nomination one of my college professors (a Black man) was like "Hilary will win because this country will never vote for a Black man." And he was really thrown (happily) when he both got the nom and the presidency. He was like, damn I underestimated how much this country hates women. (his happiness was about Obama winning, not the woman hate obviously.) I think a white cis gay man could win. I would have doubts about a Non white gay man. And clearly a woman can't win regardless. But Pete? Yeah, that could happen. ETA: I should be clear, this is not me advocating for Pete over anyone else. Or downplaying the homophobia in this country. It's just me recognizing the power of the sexism and racism above all things (plus transphobia, but not a factor in this conversation).

I would still love Castro but I know that's unlikely

I actually think there is more of a chance for a gay man versus a woman. Mostly because lots of people won’t realize he’s gay - he’s just a middle age white guy.
Gay isn’t a feature you can see in people.

Does it seem like Chuck S changed positions in just one day? Is it oddly coincidental that he also has a book coming out? I wish all Dem Senators would unite, fight, and just vote NO.

Only takes 23 Senate Democrats to remove Chuck Schumer from leadership and replace him with someone willing to fight bsky.app/profile/brandonfriedman.bsky.social/post/3lkcnf57z6s2mBetween him and seeing something about Gavin N having Steve Bannon on his podcast, I am sorely disappointed in male Democrats.

Some people like myself
Are worried about a govt shut down by dems voting no, govt shuts down.
meaning govt goes way way down, is gutted in the dark and stays shut down even if theres another vote on new resolution.
I'm also worried about 1 sentence about the crew going to "rescue" the astronauts is a military crew. So not regular nasa astronauts? Wtf does that mean? It it a hostile takeover of the space station or use it to do something else nefarious?
Tin foil hat firmly on my head.

I told my husband in the next election the D candidate needs to be a straight white dude from Midwest/battleground state. Absolutely vanilla. The first female president will be a R like Kristi Noem I'm actually cool with Coach Walz.

I think Pete Buttigieg could win because he is not overly effeminate. If he were then yes I'd say he doesn't have a chance in hell because again it's the misogyny.
I also believe there will still be elections because states NOT the federal government run elections. They might fuck with a few but they can't fuck with them all.

Have we talked about if this passes that the city of DC will lose $1B worth of funding towards their budget- so schools, police, everything.

If the government shuts down, the WH has authority to deem anything it wants as non-essential and there's no guarantee they will come back when the shutdown is over. Makes sense, but this is not okay.

The new Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, is openly gay. He's also white and married with kids. Nobody batted an eye when he was nominated, if they even knew.

Seems convenient to have figured this out at the 11th hour… I can’t say I’m fully buying it when the more ardent supporters of the actual government have said nothing of the sort. Warren, Bernie, AOC- surely one of them would be agreeing by now. And they aren’t from what I can tell.

I think I mentioned it briefly yesterday but didn't go into the details. It would effectively hand over DC to this administration. I shudder to think what would happen to the people that live there.

I think your last sentence is the key though. Most people couldn’t point out or name the treasury secretary if their life depended on it. Let alone know their orientation. Unless the GOP makes it an issue. It’s convenient that they don’t do the slurs when it’s their people. But as a dem running for president it will be the only thing we hear about from them. And suddenly it will be an issue.

Walz announced he's traveling the country doing town halls where repubs won't. Not only will he be in Omaha on 3/15, but he is going to North Omaha. Meanwhile, Bacon's sm is bragging about his bigger virtual townhall. ::eyeroll::

I was going to ask whether Elno also thinks that Charles Manson and Al Capone also didn't really kill anyone because they weren't the ones with the weapons in their hands but then I realized he probably wishes he has followers obsessed enough to follow kill orders (and honestly probably is taking notes on how to get to that level).

My uncle is a conservative - hates Trump - and we were talking while I was visiting him last month about the election etc. We were discussing potential viable candidates for the Dems next cycle and when Pete came up, I mentioned that he could never win in this culture because of homophobia. My uncle seemed genuinely surprised by this and was like "Nah, no one cares that he's gay." I think there is a decent group of conservatives that wouldn't care but he doesn't realize that it is not the majority of voters by a long shot.

And they need to be on the younger side (like 50-60ish - yes I know that’s not young). Andy Beshear, possibly? I don’t know that much about him, but he’s straight and white. I really like him.

I don't even think it's about the conservatives necessarily. I think there is a group of Dems/liberals who stayed home but would have come out for someone like Pete. (And I again stress this isn't me saying it should have been him, it's more of an indictment of those people) And then enough conservatives wouldn't know or care that it'd carry.
