The teenagers have separate school trips planned for 2025 and 2026. DD(15) had asked that we go somewhere just her and me (if the youngest can hang with the grandparents) if budget allows while DS (also 15) is on his trip. I have a feeling DS1 will ask for the same thing the next year, but might be more agreeable to bringing the youngest along. Depending on the travel budget, I'd like to make this work but want to think of trip ideas. Not sure if DH would join us for the boys trip or not, he's not as much of a traveler.
Give me some ideas of where you've gone or would want to go for one-on-one time with your teenager. I'm fine with either flying or driving. Looking at going early June.

Ideas we have so far....
DD loves reading, especially Harry Potter and Greek Mythology, country music, roller coasters and nature. Universal Florida London Greece Nashville
DS loves all things music - playing instruments and listening to classic rock, history, theatre and he's mentioned both Canada and the Sequoia National Park (is that where the giant trees are?) Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland Austin, TX New Orleans (?) Washington DC

You could go to Tennessee. You mentioned Nashville. The Smoky Mountains would give you nature and Dollywood for roller coasters. It’s 3ish hours from Nashville. Would be easy enough to do a couple of days in Nashville and then drive over for a few days in the mountains.

The only mistake we made was that we'd hoped to go to Asheville for a day but decided we'd do a girls trip at a later date. Wish we would have made it work!

Seattle? There’s the museum of pop culture that is super fun & rock & roll, harbor tours, nature a short distance. Plus, the aquarium is probably my favorite I’ve ever been to.

I think I’d plan a trip with their interests and input in mind. To me, the idea of this trip would be to spend quality time and you’ll get more engagement and happiness from a kid who wants to be there and share their own excitement with you.
EDIT - and you did just that in post two… whoops

A destination concert to see your son's favorite band/group/ensemble could be really fun! I took my daughter to a show at Red Rocks for her 10th birthday and we had a great time.

I am doing a mother/son trip to Universal FL in three weeks with DS who is 13. We both love amusement parks so when we go we go just him and I. Also planning a day to maybe do the Rock and Roll hall of fame and the Christmas Story museum in Cleveland

Sequoia does have some of the huge trees and is slightly easier to get to (1.5 hours from Fresno airport, 3 from Burbank airport). The other main one is Redwoods National Park which is 6 hours from SF airport, nearly 6 hours from Portland, or 4 hours from Eugene airport if you can find a flight there.
