I think my H and I are taking a quick trip to San Diego soon. We would like to go on one of the whale watching boat rides.
There seem to be unlimited options. Anyone have experience with one? Good or bad?

I have done the Seal tour out of seaport village and liked it, although we did not particularly go whale watching, so not sure if that’s an option at certain types of year. The vehicle is just cool because it goes from land to sea.
Sorry, not super helpful because that’s the only one I have done!

I second the Seal Boat/Car!
As for whales, I always thought Jan/Feb are the best times to see them in San Diego, but climate change may be affecting that now. Do any of the boat companies you looked at offer the money back guarantee? Again, that may be a winter thing.
Bring anti-seasickness bands or ear patch if you're prone to any seasickness. Getting out of the harbor is rough for weak stomachs.

That's good to know about getting out of the harbor being rough. I don't get seasick but I have a *thing* about other people being sick

It was an elementary school field trip many moons ago when I went whale watching in San Diego so there could be other routes now that start off more smoothly. That trip though as a child is why I don't do "small" boats now by choice. Edit: It's not the same as whales but from Torrey Pines beach or hike, you can sometimes see dolphins in the water. When I was there last month, I saw some from the shore. The next day, a group of college girls on the hiking trail said they saw sharks. I couldn't see them but then there was a shark warning posted 2 days later.

I just wanted to update in case it’s helpful for anyone sterling recommended this company www.gonewhalewatching.com/Our experience was fantastic! We went 22 miles offshore and wound up seeing 3 blue whales and cruising along with a pod of 200ish dolphins. They even kept us out longer than they had to so we could spend more time with the dolphins. A+
