I need some help and am at a dead end. My daughter is 10 years old, symptoms started 5 weeks ago. Extreme fatigue and constant dull headache for 5 straight weeks. Meds do not help. We have been to MD 4 times and the ER once. Blood work unremarkable for any infection and Lyme and mono were negative twice. She ended up with strep throat three days ago and started Cephalexin. She has an MRI in two weeks. Any ideas for what to test for or inquire about?

Has she cleared a step test following the course of antibiotics to make sure it got all of the infection? Have you discussed post viral syndrome/post viral fatigue?

Is it possible she had covid right before this started? I had, but recovered from, long covid and a headache, low grade fever, and extreme fatigue were my main symptoms.
My son had post viral syndrome and this sounds like it could be that as well.

Were iron levels checked? Those could be symptoms of low ferratin.

Has she started puberty? It could be the on-coming of her first period...

If MRI has no results, I would ask about a spinal tap for meningitis or a pressure-related headache.
I had a daily chronic headache for 6 months that meds didn’t touch. Eventually the neuro did a spinal tap and I got a wicked spinal headache. They did a blood patch and it fixed both the spinal headache and the chronic one immediately. My neuro dx’d the initial headache as a csf leak following the resolution.

Did they check her vitamin D? That’s what started for dd and she was severely low and had to get a prescription slightly low. We started her on a supplement. Thank you!

Has she started puberty? It could be the on-coming of her first period... no period. Dr said she didn’t have signs of puberty and I was quite late.

So hopefully you do too! I actually just asked for another blood draw because some of the symptoms are showing again!
