Biden is the only thing we have that's able to beat trump If they come up with some way to make a heck of a lot of if then statements work maybe there could be a change but there's no path forward that anyone can actually see to change the elected chosen dem nominee. I'm so tired of all of the handwringing and sitting on our hands complaining about how the GQP isn't playing fair but refusing to do anything about it. We should be papering every single city with details of P 2025's proposed agenda and what the consequences would be for people. They want to make America a Christian autocracy and I'm floored by the number of people out there who have zero idea that this plan exists and how far the reach would be. |

Coincidentally my H and I are watching the West Wing (me for the first time, him as a rewatch) and there are some *interesting* parallels. It's also discouraging because we've made so little progress in the last 20+ years and now we're back sliding. For. The. First. Time. Friend. My love. Ya’ll, I honestly want to cry. We’re on vacation and I’m trying to take a break from the news, but my former Republican dad keeps bringing up politics. He is all worked up and is saying Biden is going to lose and I just can’t. And to be clear, he is voting straight Dem and 100% wants Biden to win. I’ve had a couple or margaritas, which is not helping. But how can the fucking GQP support the most horrible person in the world and we can’t back Biden?! Why are we living in the upside down?

I feel like multiple things are true at once, which is not any more comforting than anything else 😭.
A lot of my age group friends are dealing with parents or grandparents that are rapidly declining cognitive functions. It’s like it happens overnight. I know it doesn’t and some of that is just not seeing them every day. But some are also declining week over week or month over month. So I could see how people are genuinely processing a perhaps similar reality for POTUS. I mean it’s not out of the realm for his age.
It’s also too late to do anything about that. The time to have handled that was in 2020. We all knew his age then and that he wasn’t going to step aside after one term. We had choices and we (collective we) didn’t take them. It’s awfully frustrating. And here we are in 2024 with a shit situation. At this point we just have to hope that he wins and that there are enough smart people around to not prop him up like Reagan. But that’s a big hope.
I don’t really think it means much when all these grown white men say he needs to go. But it is not shocking that they can’t add something like “the vice president should become the nominee and I will do everything in my power to support her campaign.” Because they won’t. They just want to hear themselves sound all smug and be “hot take” Kens.

This I think is ultimately our problem. Really rich assholes who want deregulation and be able to hold monopolies over news and entertainment own the news and entertainment. Sure this dude says he doesn't "care", but his words tell on him. He wants Trump. Trusted news sources are not impartial because they care about profit above all else. Biden isn't good for their business or pockets and that's all they care about. |
