kittenmittens, my dad was the same way, so it's nothing new to me, but through the years I've only made minimal progress. As a teenager I would go flop down in a chair and glare at my dad. Now I follow Dh around like a little sidekick and sigh periodically. Or I tell him to find me when he's done and I go talk to a friend for a while.

Ha. See, I would feel kinda bad if you ghosted without saying goodbye. But I would try to keep it under 1 minute if you were trying to leave. I don't mind saying a quick personal good-bye to people I know well and or those I had a conversation with at the party. But DH (and most Germans) go around to everyone (assuming the party is like 40 people or less) and say good-bye. Even to people they don't really know (brother of the person celebrating the b-day, for example) and didn't talk to at the party. Do. Not. Care. That's where I'm fine with a catch-all wave to an entire table. Sounds like trying to leave in my hometown. "Well, I guess, we should head out" but first! We have to say goodbye to everyone in the room. And then they follow us to the door to say goodbye some more. Half an hour after saying it was time to go, we're finally out the door, waving goodbye as we get into the car 😂 it's insane.
