hangry sorry about your sick kiddo! Hope it's brief. tjanca22 that inspiration house is so cool!! I hope you AW when it's done! I just went and bought one of those fancy temporal thermometers. I'm sick of fighting to get at someone's ear. Anyways he's at right about 102 so I gave him some meds and put him down for a nap. He has exactly zero symptoms and isn't pulling at his ear, and no one around here is sick so I'm not sure what's going on.

It never gives an accurate reading so I just bought an ear thermometer. LOL! I haven't used it yet. Is it difficult to do it in their ears? Maybe I should take it back. I hope his fever goes down soon.

My kids just like to watch the ear thermometer when I was trying to get a read so they just tended to be constantly turning their heads the wrong way. Go for one ear, head turn. Go for the other, head turns the other way. It's not the end of the world but it annoyed me enough to get the temporal.

Am...I the only one that still uses the rectal thermometer? Both of my kids freak the fuck out if someone tries to go near their ears.
Edit because hit post too soon

Omg. There's a cat room in this house with name tags above the litter boxes (I think those are litter boxes?) And I'm pretty sure one of them says "shithead".

I use an ear thermometer. BUT I was told at the hospital that you actually shouldn't use the ear thermometer for babies (under 2 I believe they said). Something to do with their ear canal not being fully developed (or too small??) so you don't get an accurate read. I will actually take C's temp in each ear and go by the highest (and there have been differences of a full degree or more).
Most of the time I just kiss their head. I get a pretty accurate guess based on that. I only use the actual thermometer if I'm iffy or if I'm deciding if a temp is "too high".

Shithead the cat has a nice ring to it. It's accurate for my cat that's for sure. The other two were hard to read, but I think they said Tips and Lucy. Poor Shithead, but he probably earned that name.

I get a pretty accurate guess based on that. I only use the actual thermometer if I'm iffy or if I'm deciding if a temp is "too high". I always do the same, I take it twice in each ear and take the highest reading or I'll add a couple points even just to be super conservative. Luckily we haven't gotten past 101ish so even wth a couple points added I know we are still under 102. And I also put my mouth to the side of their head where it feels the hottest and can usually tell if it's like minor (99ish) or heading higher than that. My prob is that both my kids have normal resting temp of 97.2 so I don't know if I should really be more concerned about 101 but I generally use their appetite and demeanor in my highly scientific analysis.

Edit because hit post too soon Nope, I use the rectal thermometer here, I've always heard that it is the most accurate. I use the armpit one for B when he feels off but, and maybe a FFCM, I use the rectal one on him as well if I need a second reading. Haven't tried the ear one, maybe I should....

I use the ear thermometer here. I know rectal is most accurate, and under arm is next most accurate at this age, but it is much harder and takes longer and you have to undress them every time. I use the ear and take it several times to find he highest. I have never found a need for an absolute exact temp anyway. If it's high enough that I'm scared, I go to the doctor.

M has been using it for a microphone. There were several times I'd use it on M to only find out when I took her to urgent care for a possible EI that she actually had a temp. But it never registered on my temporal. With H, I'd take it a gazillion times and get a different reading every freakin time so I just use the rectal on him. There's no way in hell M would let me take hers rectally anymore. She stopped letting me do that over a year ago.

dashook we still do rectal over here, especially for E. it's getting harder and harder to do as he gets older, but with him, we need it to be as accurate as possible 😕. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh I'm laughing at all these thermometer comments; so funny. I check J's temp on the regular, like once a day. Did the same with B. Even MH bugs me, 'why are you so temperature obsessed' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's going to look like such a different house tjanca22!! How exciting! Can't wait to discuss door colors. Mines black. So boring. waitwhat M is definitely doing the fake cough thing. It's pretty cute. Well, once I realized what she was doing. Yay for a short work week jubilantsquirrel! That sign 100% says shithead. I'm dying. It looks like it was made with such love...the heart is a great touch. That sounds really scary starbuck. I'm really glad he finally calmed down for you. I bet those 20 minutes felt like ten years. Yes kleigh these kids are way too smart. And they know it. hangry....ehhh yes? I think? She's still waking up every couple of hours, but she isn't covered in scratches from itching herself. Giving the zyrtec is pure hell though. It's the worst tasting of anything we've had to give her and she has a complete meltdown during it. I cried today while I was forcing it into her mouth because I'm so sick of giving her medicine. I hope your sweet girl is feeling better soon. dashook I'm a little blown away that a six week plan involves Labor Day. What?! How?! Didn't we just start summer? tgrimes I will take every single one of those dishes, please.
