Assuming you had an appointment with your hairdresser, how long would you wait after your scheduled appointment? I’m wondering if I’m in the minority or not.

I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 15 minutes at anyplace lower scale or more so and I would be kinda annoyed if I did without an explanation.
Maybe I’m lucky or an asshole though lol

I said the limit does not exist because for me, it would truly be situational. Did she call and let me know she was running late and what she thought the ETA was? Is it a Saturday appointment and I have nothing to do after and am happy to sit in the quiet all alone for a bit? Is it an after-work appointment and I'm burned out and just want to get it done and get home and put on soft pants? In general, I'm a pretty patient person assuming I have been given some heads up and that it's not a habitual thing. I think stylists should hold themselves to the same rules they have for their clients. Will she cancel my appointment if I'm 15 or more minutes late and charge me a fee, if yes, then if she's 15+ late, I get to cancel with no penalty and get money off my next service.

It depends. A lower cost place that takes walk-ins and appointments? I would be annoyed after 15 minutes. A higher end/appt only salon? I would expect to be told of a delay when I arrive or as soon as it becomes clear there’s a snafu and given the option to reschedule - emergencies happen ya know? I am generally OK waiting if some other person had a disaster service somewhere else my stylist is trying to fix/make better because there but for the grace of god go I kwim?

Details: This is not an upscale salon. The hairstylist is the owner. We had an appointment and waited an hour before leaving. She’s done this a few times, so I made an appointment elsewhere. She keeps texting me to give her another chance.

After reading your update, I’d find a permanent replacement.
I’d be willing to wait one time for a bit of time if I’m the last appt of the day, and it came with ample apologies and an actual reason for the delay that was unlikely to happen again.

My stylist runs a tight ship, the most I’ve ever waited is maybe 10 minutes. So if she was super late once I know it must be a good reason. If this is a regular occurrence I’d be finding someone new

Thanks for the feedback. I was feeling bad because she’s a very nice person, but I’ll keep our other appointment. Attachments:

I went to a salon and my last few visits my stylist would welcome me in, put me in a seat with a cape, and then completely ignore me for 45 minutes. The second time it happened I found a new stylist.
I would not go back and after that many unanswered texts in a row I would block her number.

I’ve been going to the same person for 12 years and I wait zero minutes. Ever. I am now eternally grateful for that and will thank her this weekend. I have a hard time thinking about how long I will be at the salon anyways without a wait. It makes me anxious. I’ve quit stylists in the past that take too long total. I understand with dye it is going to be a certain amount of time but I need someone efficient enough to not be a four hour thing.
Anyways, prior to my current person, I can’t remember long waits with an appointment. Maybe 5-15 if it’s a bigger place that has a separate washing process and you have to wait for a sink.
This lady is either underestimating her time and booking too many appointments or she’s taking walk ins. Either way, I’d find a new place because it’s not going to change.

We changed the salon our boys go to for exactly this reason and we're all so much happier now that they're at a new place where we never wait longer than 5 minutes.

10 minutes until I start feeling antsy but my stylist is usually really good. She always acknowledges me and gives me a heads up. She’s also done my hair (and did my wedding hair) for 12+ years so I’d be surprised if suddenly I had a long wait.
An hour? No way. And those texts are sooo uncomfortable!

I go to a big salon with a separate person who washes. They always greet you and offer you a drink as soon as you get there. I've never waited more than 15 minutes to start the process. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes again between washing and starting my cut- but they communicate and the wait is never very long.
Now I've went to smaller places in the past and experienced more delays with my hairstylist doing everything. I would still not be OK with waiting an hour more than once. And I walked out of a place with my middle DD because we were left waiting an hour on our very first appointment there. NOPE.

If my appointment is later in the day, I may have to wait 5-10 minutes. He's explained to me that his clients will sometimes run a few minutes late, which gets him behind, so I give grace on that. An hour is crazy. Her continuing to text is uncomfortable. I would not want to go back there.

I had such a great stylist in LA. 😭 I’ve lived in Houston for a good while now but haven’t found someone I love. The search continues.

15 minutes without a thought, 30 with secret annoyance. I would leave after that.

Like I want to make a trip back just for her to do my hair. Also I can’t bring myself to read the texts because I know the ick in me will be so high and I’m sorry she’s doing that because it will would make me ridiculously uncomfortable.

H’s friend was his barber forever until he moved with his family. We seriously considered flying him in (he still has family here) to do his hair and beard for the wedding but they couldn’t make it anyway due to Covid but it was a possibility

I've never experienced this thank goodness. If my stylist is running late, I'd expect her to text me so I can adjust. I get my hair done like....twice a year so I generally take the time off and have it scheduled into my life so rescheduling with anything less than 48 hours would be a problem.

Ok, this is the other stylist we booked an appointment with. Looking at this exchange, what time do you think the appointment was?
