I would add The Great Alone to the list of amazing reads, especially Kristin Hannah ones. That one does come with some trigger warnings though It was a great read but tough. The Four Winds was as well.

I was really excited about City of Brass but 2 hours in and I’m just not feeling it. Maybe I’d enjoy it more as a physical book

I decided to put down Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord because I just couldn't motivate myself to pick it up after a couple of weeks of trying. I got it through Aardvark as part of a gift certificate from my MIL. I stuck it in the mail to my BFF, along with Bride.

I finished the first Throne of Glass book and gave it 3 stars on GR, rounded up from 2.5 in my head. I didn't realize until after I started it that SM began this series as a teen and I could definitely tell. The writing was more bland and the characters less dimensional than her other books. It felt more formulaic. Either way, I still enjoyed it and I think I'll go back and start the prequel book before moving on to the others in this series and then the rest of the CC books.

I picked up a spicy romance while waiting for holds to come in. Flawless by Elsie Silver. Not my usual cup of tea, but my gosh 🥵 Who knew cowboys were my thing 😂

I finally finished Broken Earth. It was really good, but damn did it take me a month to read three books!? I usually read so fast! Those books took me a long time to read too. But I loved them so much!

March was a weird month:
Evidence of the Affair - 2 stars The Young of Other Animals - 1 star The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - 5 stars The Lost Apothecary - 1 star The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic - 1 star The Alienist - 2 stars The Beach House on Amelia Island - 2 stars The Cafe on Amelia Island - 1 star The Day Tripper - 4 stars (recommend if you love The Time Traveler's Wife)
Current read is Give Them Lala. A bunch of holds came in at once. I need to pick my First Read.

But I loved them so much! I really did love them! I think the visual descriptions were hard to wrap my head around? Maybe? I don't know, they were just super slow reads for me considering they weren't any longer than other fantasy books.

I read 9 books in March. I started the Oddjobs series which is pretty weird but I really enjoy and I have two books left in that series which I'm looking forward to reading this month. My other favorites were The Last Murder at the End of the World which is by the same author who wrote The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle but I enjoyed this one much more. And The Anxious Generation was also a favorite although it was more scary/depressing in terms of social media and its serious effects on children but it motivated me to be even more strict with my kids and to stop making so many exceptions even though it makes them angry. March was a good reading month for me. I’m reading Anxious Generation and it’s reiterating what I already know and opening my eyes at the same time. I’m also guilty of making exceptions to my own rules but really want to lock it down for a long while.

I flew through Inside the O’Briens. I definitely recommend it. I haven’t read a story about Huntington’s Disease before. The author is a Harvard educated neuroscientist, and all of her books are about some sort of neurological condition (Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s Disease, ALS). It was really well done, and very thought provoking. 4.5 stars.

Has anyone read Black Cake? My boss gave it glowing reviews but it’s like a bazillion month hold at my library. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth just buying it. One of my favourite books of last year. But it's slow moving, somewhat intricate, there's lots of moving parts and different timelines. But it left me contemplating important things. I like when a book leaves me like that.

This is one of my all time favourite books too. left me broken and happy all at the same time. Other absolute five stars for me.... Homegoing (like others) Half a Yellow Sun (like others) Shantaram (I have never read a book so vivid, I could see it completely in my mind, I haven't been able to watch the show because it's just not what I imagined) The Art of Racing in the Rain Butter Honey Pig Bread The Paris Deception was a surprise five star recently

I finished A Kill For Me A Kill For You last night. Did I like it? Dislike it? I can’t really decide. It was a bit out there but also kept me guessing.
Started Just for Summer.

I read that the Fanning sisters are being cast for the film adaptation of The Nightingale. I can’t decide how I feel about that.

I keep falling asleep while reading Good Half Gone. I don’t know if it’s just not interesting or if I just haven’t gotten to a good spot. Or if I’m just that tired

It’s so funny to me when I’m reminded of how everyone’s tastes are different. My online book club is reading Just for the Summer this month and Funny Story next month, and I’m personally not looking forward to either of those ONLY because I don’t enjoy romance. I don’t enjoy romance in television or movies, so it’s not at all surprising that I don’t reach for it for reading either. But it’s quite obviously one of the most popular genres of books out there, and those two books specifically have been popping up allllll over of the place. So I know in my book club 95% of the people are super excited for it, and then I’m like great, 2 months in a row of something that feels like required reading to me. I am partly looking forward to reading an Emily Henry book because I know how popular she is and I have never read one of hers, so I guess in a way I’m thankful this challenge is getting me to do that, because otherwise I don’t think I ever would. There are too many other books out there I want to read instead.
We usually talk about what everyone is looking forward to, so how about this - what is your least favorite mainstream genre?

I was going to say fantasy but I do read fourth wing and a few others I’m not big into romance or contemporary fiction but again I do read some of it once I see reviews or if I like the author

Sci-fi and horror are ones I never read. Not a huge fan of fantasy or non fiction but every year there are 1-2 that I read and enjoy. I mostly stick with thrillers and contemporary romance but with an emphasis on the story. Like I’d be thrilled to be in a book club and discuss Just For Summer and Funny Story. I can’t stand the romance with nothing but sex scenes.

Literary fiction can be so hit or miss for me, historical fiction is the same - there's some I've really liked, but most feel repetitive.
I used to not read much romance, but I've been reading more in between my horror/thriller reads and I'm starting to really love it.
