My son turned 11 today! He is having a party in a few hours. He has always had a hard time making friends. So much so that he was seeing the counselor at school. For the party today he was able to invite six people from school. All six RSVPed yes. I seriously cried after the first couple of yeses, and I am so excited for the party now. 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝

DD1 had to read a book for ELA. She actually liked the book until the end when the main character dies. She has been devastated since she finished it yesterday. Barely slept last night so I think she is napping now. I have no clue how she is going to work on an essay for this book. I am sympathetic because i am the same way. But ugh. 🙁 Aw! I’m still scarred by Where the Red Fern Grows. Which book did she read?

I remember our student teacher reading that aloud to us in 4th grade! He did like a chapter a day and we were enthralled.

A parent from my daughter’s volleyball team just texted me. She said, “I’m really tired of being fat.”
I don’t really know this parent at all, I’m thinking it was a mistake text. Do I ignore it? Do I tell her that she’s not fat? I don’t know what to do lol.

And some homemade cards 😍. I was so happy for him.

Bridge to Terabithia was so good but so traumatizing! DD read Freak the Mighty last year. She said it was super depressing and terrible. She met her best friend in ELA and they still talk about how much they disliked that book!

DD1 hates realistic fiction because it is all depressing. And the kicker was she ACTUALLY liked the book until the last 15 pages. She really enjoyed it. So she was equally upset and annoyed this weekend about it. Literally told me that is why she sticks with Percy Jackson. It ruined her whole weekend. The paper they are writing based on the book is an argumentative piece of who they believe the hero of the story is. So, she is not thrilled she has to write an essay about the book either.

They also had to read Percy Jackson last year. THAT they loved and they read the rest of the series on their own. Maybe R will get lucky and that will be the next book assigned! I am with her. Realistic fiction can be so heavy. School assigned books have not gotten any better since the 90s. Mine spent every day from October-December complaining about The Invisible Man.

She placed into advanced ELA, and loves the teacher and parts of it. However during the school year they read "Fever 1793" about the yellow fever epidemic. Then the short story "Rogue Wave" about kids on a capsized boat. They did do Christmas Carol (which she loved!) and Sword in the Stone and Flight of Icarus which she LOVED. (They had to write an alternative ending to that story-and she is obsessed with Greek Mythology so it really shined through). Hopefully the next book after this will be better.

I got an invite to my neighborhood next door page. I should just ignore it right?? Thinking about all the stories I've heard here about it 🤣🤣 Next door in my area is all about the missing and found cats and dogs. There's hardly any dissing on people. They get taken down. I've gotten recs for plumbers and electricians and got a lot of things free on the for sale page. Last year I sold hundreds of bags of apricots and citrus just thru next door So it could be bad or good. Depending on the mods or whatever it's called. My area includes sun city retirement so we do have the Olds.
